Kahere Retreat
What a wonderful and relaxing place. The spaces blend with the environment. The heated patio was fantastic in cold weather. And to boot has fast Wi-Fi to stay in touch as needed. The owners are responsive and very kind and flexible. Stay here. You’ll love it. It’s about 3 minutes out of down town and you feel like you’re miles from anywhere.

Stayed one night in Cottage 1 on our way up the coast. Very private and peaceful location. After a long day in the car, the (shared) sauna and hot tub were a welcome sight. We spent some time looking at the Milky Way from our private deck. Very clean and comfortable beds.

Beautiful handcrafted accomodation is beautiful surroundings! Warm, comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen and bathroom. This is a really special place. Amazing views from the hot tub! Thanks so much for a wonderful stay

This place would be lovely in the summer, but was unfortunately too cold for us in winter. Hard to heat only two small heaters, single glazing and thin curtains.The place was beautifully handcrafted.The stairs were very steep, with bedroom upstairs and kitchen/ bathroom/ living downstairs (we left our luggage downstairs). I wouldn't recommend for somebody with mobility problems or small child.Well equipped kitchen though no microwave.The wifi wasn't very reliable to connect to, and there was no local information provided.It was close to Franz Josef town, about 5min away and quiet - we didn't notice any helicopter noise. The views were nice.

This place is fabulous. Make sure you stay for a few nights. The chalets are outstanding. The location and facilities amazing. I can't speak highly enough of the Retreat. Intimate, Family or a group... Kahere delivers at every level.

Loved every minute of our stay from the phone call to book to breakfast on the deck the next morning , thanktlyou so much, was the nicest place we've stayed in the south island, everything you need, peaceful, private, cosy, warm, comfy beds, wofo, hot showers with great pressure, would have loved to stay longer , we will definitely be back.
