Matua Ngaru School

New school which follows the open classroom setup for students and has just been recently completed. Right next to local soccer fields

i used to go there, but I don't think the modern learning environment works for everyone. There weren't many options of schools in our area so we decided to go with matua ngaru. There were good teachers and students, but I was so behind on everything. I found it very difficult to get used to this different learning environment, but it didn't really help that I came from a school with a very structured learning style. I think it's good if a student starts there, because they become more familiar with the way of learning, but not too sure about moving your child here from another school (especially if they previously had a different learning style to this school). Also struggled a bit here because I have asd. OK bye

Wonderful school under a great leadership.Highly recommend it!

Had a terrible time with this school. My son was one of the foundation Year 1 students when the school first opened last year. He has ASD and therefore is easily overwhelmed and has trouble expressing his emotions. There where a few incidents where my son would lash out at other students or not take part in class activities. The school decided to bury their head in the sand about his condition, even threatened us with suspension and expulsion instead of trying to help in any way. They were offered help by Autism NZ but didn't want to know about it. I really felt like they had the attitude that they were a brand new perfect school and only wanted perfect students, which did not include my son. We have since moved to Whangaparaoa and he now attends GHS. There could not be a bigger difference between these schools. GHS has been incredibly supportive and my son is thriving. If your child has ASD or any sensory processing issues do not send them to Matua Ngaru, the so called modern learning environment" is a completely overwhelming disaster and a failed experiment that the ministry of education has decided to use more and more. Would not recommend this school to anyone."
