Great staff and volunteers who work there. We have fostered for the last 4 years and love it. The foster team provides everything required and always on hand if you need anything. If you can assist the team there please do they do amazing work. Always lots of animals there to adopt and having an animal in the house is amazing

Tried getting them to help an abandoned dog on the street, but they weren't interested. Poor dog is skinny and been there for days. Too scared for anyone to catch it, but told to phone the council. What is the spca for if they won't help a helpless animal?

Rafiki’s first real home. Thank you team for taking such good care of him when he was a kitten. The SPCA team are wonderful here, they made sure we had everything we needed to give Raffy his best life. If you can buy a rescue, do it! They are so worth it - just look at this guy!

My recent experience with the SPCA left a lot to be desired. The new appointment-only policy has made it increasingly difficult for good families to adopt from this organization. I understand the need for organization and efficiency, but it seems to have come at the expense of genuine connections and accessibility. My mum, who isn't particularly tech-savvy, visited the SPCA hoping to quietly look for a companion. Sometimes, you just want to explore on your own without someone dictating what's best for you as if they know you better than yourself. Unfortunately, she was turned away. Instead of adopting from the SPCA, we had to explore other options.I've noticed that the SPCA claims that having people around their animals is too stressful, but why have these animals suddenly become unable to socialize with many people? It's unusual to restrict their interactions when dogs should be able to socialize, become familiar with people, and be calm around strangers and children. Recent experiences with the SPCA have been far from memorable. In the past, we have adopted three dogs from the SPCA, many years ago when it was a more welcoming and open environment for visitors. Those dogs lived full and happy lives as cherished family members. However, my last attempt to adopt left me feeling like a second-class citizen, as if I wasn't worthy enough to provide a loving home for one of their puppies. The current operation of the SPCA has deterred us from considering future donations or adoptions from their organization. It's disheartening to see how things have changed and how potential adopters are treated. I hope the SPCA reevaluates its policies to strike a better balance between efficiency and the needs of both animals and adopters.

Having not been to the SPCA since before Covid hit we were not aware that they no longer do walk in viewings of animals waiting to be adopted. You need to book in a viewing session. This should be mentioned somewhere so others aren't caught out like we were. Besides that we attended the adoption weekend and adopted two kittens.

Went here yesterdayNever understood why we had to make an appointment to rescue a kitten,The place had no one but a elder couple .Where as a couple before us never made an appointment but was told to wait and fill out a formWasted a day and the time to travel there to be turned around and told to make an appointment and hopefully get something the day after or next week, not everyone's got that kind of freedom.

Disappointing service now days! Not how it use to be years ago when you can actually walk around and think about which animal you want to adopt. Your forced on the spot to pick an animal from a wall and be shown only that animal. Makes me reconsider adopting rescue animals! The staff make it clear that they don't want their time wasted.

We've had a terrible experience. We (still) have a stray cat problem, with a mother cat and her two kittens roaming our property. We reached out to the SPCA multiple times, both by phone and email, in an attempt to have the cats removed or at least have them neutered to prevent further growth of the stray population.Unfortunately, we received no answer after calling them multiple times. We then emailed and they did respond initially - they offered to neuter the cats and then return them back to the property. Once we agreed to this (as this was all they offered) they stopped responding. We followed up with another email and still nothing. It is clear that the staff have no interest in helping us or addressing the well-being of the animals. They are not living up to the expectation of protecting animals and helping the community. When we first found the cats, they were in a bad shape and we were worried about their health, but the SPCA showed no concern and were unwilling to help.We are very disappointed with their attitude and lack of interest and expected more from an organization that is supposed to protect animals.

Adopted a kitten from SPCA Mangere about 6 weeks ago. The staff & volunteers here were very friendly and knowledgeable. They made sure my partner and I got all information we needed before taking our cat home. Georgia was looking after us when we were in the shelter and she’s been very patient when trying to help us finding the right kitty. I’d suggest people who’re thinking of adopting to not to be intimidated by the online booking system. If you’re comfortable to do any online shopping, you’ll be fine using the adoption portal to fill in a form and book a time for your visit. I believe it helps the staff to prepare for the meet & greet as well as reducing the stress level of the animals due to foot traffic. We have a very happy kitty calling our home his now :3 Hope all fur babies find their forever home!

Came here to donate and familiarize my young daughter with the animals before adopting only to be told that visits are through appointment only and they could not accommodate us because they didn't have capacity. There were three people not doing anything at the counter so this felt very disingenuous. Really disappointing and wish this was stipulated on the front page of the website and on the phone
