This place has the best boerewors (spiced ground meat sausage) outside of South Africa. And even better than many places in South Africa. Worth a try.

Fantastic biltong, droëwors and boerewors - the best I’ve found in NZ. I’ve tried lots of biltong around the Wellington region and further north, none of it even comes close to Basie’s.The biltong has a lovely texture and deeply satisfying flavour. It’s a quality product clearly made with a great deal of care and attention.You’ll be sure of a friendly welcome in this wonderful shop. It’s small but well-curated - I would highly recommend a visit.

Little shop with lots of South African goods. Biltong and wors (sausages) are made by the owner to old family recipes, and are delicious. No fillers in the wors, just meat and spices. Prices are reasonable.

I took mum to try some biltong as she’s never had it before. We at first thought it’s the same shop that used to be in Petone, I really missed the flavours there. But I’ve not felt this uncomfortable with customer service for so long!! Not sure if it’s racism or if the guy was just having a really bad day. I just asked what the flavours were like for four kinds of biltong they had, he said “Do you know what garlic taste like? Describe it for me?” The level of passive aggressiveness is real! The meat was good but we can’t enjoy it cuz this attitude. Will not be going back again. We’ve always enjoyed SA cuisine. I hope the guy was just having a bad day… I’m not giving lower stars cuz everyone is having a hard time in this economy. But please treat people nicer.

Oom Basie is a character! Best droëwors and biltong! Good old South African biltong shop, not the place if you're full of kak about how you like your biltong, Oom Basie knows best. And might I add, the best koeksisters I have ever had by far!

Only been in once,a long time ago, but walk past it most days. Specialises in South African foodstuffs. The owner does make very good SA sausages on the premises.
