Powerboat Training New Zealand

Had a great day's training on a Rayglass 3500 recently. I've driven trailer-launched runabouts a lot but hardly any experience with larger boats and marina/mooring manoeuvring. Andrew was extremely knowledgable, he worked out where I needed to focus and made sure I got the right practice in the right areas. Would not hesitate to recommend, and I think some periodic knowledge refresh sessions will be a good idea in the future also.

My wife and I bought our boat in July and although I have had some boating experience we were reasonably apprehensive about the challenges ahead of us. On the day we took ownership we did the first day of the two day RYA Powerboat Level 2 training course with Andrew. This was a fantastic start to what has quickly become the focus of our weekends. The day gave us the right level of understanding of charts and harbour rules balanced with a basic understanding of our boat, its capabilities, and an introduction into low speed marine manoeuvring.This gave us the confidence to get out and enjoy the gulf and we have just completed the second day of the course enhancing skills already learnt.Andrew is extremely professional, patient, clear in his instruction, gives good context of theory and depth to safety behaviours, whilst maintaining a pleasurable demeanour and a sense of humour.I am certain that we would not be enjoying the Gulf and our boat as much as we are if it was not for the confidence Andrew has given us. Overall ratting AWESOME!

My two sessions with Andrew were invaluable even though I have had previous boating experience. His teaching style is very clear and supportive and he is able to teach to the ability of his students adapting his delivery to suit the training need. With a comprehensive local knowledge he gives confidence to the trainee thus ensuring the safety of the student and other boat users. Andrew is very personable and has a way of making the training rewarding and enjoyable. Before taking the course at Powerboat Training, we had never driven a boat and had very limited knowledge of boats in general. The RYA Level 1 course was a great way to learn the basics of driving a boat and everything that goes along with it. Our instructor Andrew was very helpful, supportive and patient enabling us to understand all the important aspects of driving a powerboat. The balance between theory and practice was perfect! We can definitely recommend RYA Level 1 to anyone who want to get into boating. It has been an amazing experience for us. We will be back for more!

2 great days of training on our own boat. Finally know how to park the thing and understand the use of a chart !!Andrew is very tolerant and able to get the information through.I recommend the Level 2 course to anyone new to power boating or wanting to take the next step.Will be looking at more training in the future.Cheers Craig

Hi, I have recently completed an 'Own Boat Training Course' with Power Boat Training NZ. I had no previous experience with boat handling or the rules of the sea.My tutor Andrew was great in teaching a novice like myself, Andrew's relaxed yet confident manner allowed for the lessons to be very informative, easy to understand & left me with the knowledge one requires inorder to be a water safe & successful skipper of a boat. Chart readings, safety precautions, boat handling & a general knowledge of 'boat stuff' taught by a greatbloke & in whom I would easily recommend to anyone who is a novice like me or to anyone who wants to increase their skills or knowledge base.It is my pleasure to endorse Power Boat Training NZ.Robert John-Andrew.

The training I recieved from Andrew was invaluable and provided me with knowledge that will serve me well for the rest of my life. I still have much to learn but I feel confident that the basics and more have been covered so that I can build upon and pass on to my family. Andrew's patience and calm approach put me to ease very quickly and nothing was too much trouble. Powerboat Training should be complusary for any new beginner to boating and I can highly recommend Powerboat training to anyone.

Completed the on the water training through Powerboat Training New Zealand and highly recommend it. Was informative, tailored, practical and met the needs of our capabilities in order to skipper a vessel and look after those on board. Our trainer Andrew was really informative, engaging and answered all the questions we had along with providing useful tips for future use. Would definitely use them again if required in the future.

I used Power boat training for a training day having recently bought a share in an Ownaship launch. I cannot speak more highly of the day with Andrew. He has a background in lifeboat rescue and is very experienced. His knowledge and practical instructional technique was excellent. I thoroughly recommend Andrew and Power boat training for any type of on the water training.

Despite only spending a short time with Andrew for the duration of my Powerboat Level 2 course, I definitely came away with a sense of achievement, as well as a breadth of new knowledge. His methodical yet personable approach to teaching gives you both the tools and the confidence to get behind the wheel and excel with ease. An immensely experienced and highly recommended boating instructor. Five stars all round.
