The best view I've had at any cafe/restaurant anywhere in Wellington... Modern decor which is very nice and the place is well laid out in general. A little hard to find the entrance if you are walking on the main street, but we got there. Good food and coffee. Definitely will be returning.

A nice modern setting, although noisy. Good service and a great seasonal menu. Food was brilliant and fast. Particularly the chicken.

Excellent 'local' restaurant with informal bistro atmosphere.It was a cold windy Sunday night when we visited with our family.We were greeted promptly and friendly by the manager and given our choice of seating so chose the large table near the fireplace.We all shared entrees and had a variety of mainsThe garlic prawns with chill sauce were excellent and everyone enjoyed their mains which were mainly seafood but included a steak. The Saddleback pinot noir was good value and both adults and children enjoyed our meals.While Kotare is not busy in the evenings and does not have an extensive selection of mains I can recommend a visit for excellent food and service with a nice relaxed atmosphere. The view at Days Bay during the day is just another good reason to return soon.

Went for lunch on Queens Birthday. Waited for quite a while for a table, eventually handed menus and told to sit where we want. We sat for some time before eventually someone came to take our orders. We asked for water 3 times and even had an unsuccessful trip to the bar to seek it ourselves. After around an hour of watching this shambolic nightmare of service we were told (by a short haired lady who appeared to be the manager) that our orders had been forgotten. We had been there in the freezing cold (inside) waiting with some water (no drinks order was ever taken or offered) with a 3 year old child for an hour! The manager walked off without apologising or offering any solutions and we promptly left the restaurant.I will NOT return to this place. The service here is an outrage.

An amazingly location beside the Cook Strait at Days Bay. Beautiful decor and the coffee was good.

One of the higher end cafes in the area, a good choice of food and drinks but the smoothie was pretty disappointing.Still, really liked the atmosphere ans the staff were really friendly, would definitely come here again but probably wouldn't buy the smoothie.Prices were actually very reasonable overall.
