here is a complete honest review from a student who has studied at ormiston junior college for four years. i’ve seen many reviews that tend to over exaggerate certain things which is because they have a strong hate for this school. i am someone who was a school leader for most of my time at this school yet i’m willing to give my unbiased constructive criticism.this school has a lot of ups and a lot of downs. the learning system is very different from other schools as there’s a lot of freedom in what you want to learn. with freedom comes with the responsibility from students to proactively do their work, but most of the time this doesn’t happen. i’ve had alot of projects where the outcome doesn’t help with anything and it was merely a waste of time. but i’ve also had projects where the outcome is able to help me in the future. ojc is a school where if you want to work you can and if you don’t, you don’t. the first class of the day is called mac where in other schools is also known as tutor/homeroom. in mac you form relationships and bonds with your coach and your mac members, which i highly appreciate. relationships is one of the things i think makes ojc different than other schools, in a good way. usually students in other schools aren’t too comfortable with their teachers but in this school they’re someone you can trust, you can talk to and get heaps of support from. i know a handful of teachers who have helped me shape myself in the person i am. i think that a lot of the time, the success of a student comes from the learning coaches, at this school we have a lot of teachers who put lots of effort into making sure that the students see success but there are a lot of teachers who don’t. i have been in classes where i have achieved nothing for my time being, but i have also been in classes where i have learnt so much that could help me in the future. there is a subject called taip where you have the freedom to choose which class you go to (each class is focused on something different) and in those classes you are able to create a project of your liking. i can’t deny, there has been heaps of success within taip in the past where students were even sent overseas to different countries. but taip is also seen as a time to mess around, play games and achieve nothing. ojc is based around digital learning using ipads everyday to learn but there is also alot of opportunities there to use your ipad for bad intentions. it is hard to see big success in taip nowadays as people stop putting effort and some of the teachers aren’t there to support them.the extracurricular activities in this school however i really enjoy and found myself heavily involved in. there’s a wide range of clubs and groups you can involve yourself in! whether it’s sports or the arts, ojc has a big variety to choose from.the mental health support in this school provides is also something that i think makes a big difference, we have the hauora hub which is a room where if you are feeling upset you’re allow to go there, talk to an adult and more. the school highly encourages students to talk to the councillor if they are needing support. compared to other hauora support in other schools such as botany downs secondary college, ojcs support is definitely better.the way ojc assesses their students is through something called badges. it basically is the nz curriculum. students have to compose a presentation to connect their learning to the curriculum. badges is something that people in the school despise as they see no point in it. and i somewhat agree. the bad reviews that i have seen on ormiston junior college comes from students who have put little to no effort into school, they are dependent on teachers to guide them through each step of the way which is why they did not see success in this school. if you are able to be independent and self managing, if you are able to put use your personal skills into your projects, if you are able to put yourself forward and involve yourself then you will see success in this school. i have learnt a lot from my time at ojc.

Hello. My name is Soltan Bolan. I have been at this school for the whole 4 years, and this is my honest honest review.I personally thought this school was gonna be good. The previous one, Ormiston Primary was my favourite school and it was memorable because I had a ton of fun time there. But the reason I miss those fun memories is because this school is so bland in personality and everyone in the school (including 50% of the teachers) are edgy, rude and annoying. I've been in a few fights before in this school, but I've also tried my best to learn in this school. This school is terrible with learning. It's utterly disgusting at sometimes, and this school tries their hardest to look good in the photos, but behind the scenes it's bad. A lot of people have been talking bad about this school, and I agree. It's bad, and from what I've seen, it gets worse every year. The teachers are bad (except a few, which make this school a good thing). The teachers don't teach and the students don't learn. Simple. This school just can't seem to get things right, and year by year they try their hardest to improve. The school has a bunch of teachers that are apart of the LGBTQ+ community, and one time I said something about my religion not respecting it, and those" teachers shamed me and my religion. Im Muslim by the way

{MUST READ}. The most honest review, from a student, that “studied” here for 3 years. The learning here is absolute rubbish. No exams, no credits, and besides that, the school doesn't even teach science! Science is a really important subject that should be taught, this school believes that science should not be taught. The two subjects they do teach are mathematics and English. However, they do a really poor job at it. Did the school even think about the students' futures? You could go to any student here and ask what an ion is and they would be clueless!Teachers do not care if students do good or bad in school. Teachers let students play games on their iPads during class. This school hires the most inexperienced and unprofessional teachers who have no idea what they are doing. My friend got physically harassed in this school while he was at a camp, (the teachers name was Jan Ubels). He says a teacher dashed towards the side of him and right hooked him to the ground. The principal was informed about this and even talked to the student about this. The crazy thing was that the teacher remained to teach in the school and wasn’t even fired. This school does badges instead of exams. For each badge, there is a curriculum where the student needs to show that they have achieved by using pictures or videos. Most of the time students would use the most random pictures and find a way to link it to the criteria, 90% of the time students would fool the teachers because 1) they are clueless and 2) they don’t care. This proves how unprofessional they are.At the start of every day, you spend 90 minutes in the Mac, Mentor Advisor Coach"

As a foundation student who was enrolled at this school for two years, I can say that this school is a total waste of investment. The two years I've spent here brought me nothing in academic achievement or extra-curricular. The school has very modern facilities with great opportunity to grow students into who they want to be but this school puts it all into waste. The system they use here is absolute rubbish, doesn't teach us anything. According to contacts who've spent all their intermediate years at this school have told me that sadly since I left the school has not improved and has put them (including myself) behind in academic growth. The learning coaches let the students muck about on their iPads all day and would never care if they showed up to class. The potential of this school is so incredibly high but due to the system they follow it incredibly fails. One of the worst schools in Auckland. The Primary School next to it on the other hand is very good, I learnt more there than I did at this place. If you want your child to develop and give them a decent education, Ormiston Junior College is NOT the place.

Ojc reviewAs being a student at Ormiston junior collage (ojc).Honest reviewThis is an honest review from a student that has studied/wasted his time at this school. This school Ormiston junior collage claims itself as one of the best junior collages in Auckland but this sch is no way near the top. I believe that Africa, Iran and Korea have better schools than (ojc).on the other hand the primary and senior are good school but not the best. Ormiston junior collage (ojc) is one of the worst schools I have ever been in my life.my school in India was better than this. my parents came to NZ for me to have a better education but Ormiston juniors collage has none of that. This school does not have any science classes .but they have (mac) mac is like a role class in better school roll class should only be about 10-20 mins where this school has a whole hour for it. Also through my experience in Ormiston junior collage we had to go threw a online school phase because of the pandemic. Threw online school I would attend my Mac classes in the morning to study but the teachers would ask us to play silly games like stumble guys and poker which is an 18 plus gambling game. This school also has no science and I feel like since is very important for kids as if people need to know about mission to mars and different sources of science. Also considering the fact this school has no social studies. This school focuses more on killing time and all the teachers care about is getting there money and not teaching the kids what they should. This school focuses on people who are gonna work a 9-5 job at Mac Donald’s for their whole life. This school only focuses on two subjects numeracy and literacy, but they can’t even do that properly as in numeracy they jus threw kids sum worksheets and the teacher chills on her iPad(watching a Netflix series). also in literacy they give us a topic each term and tell us to write up about it. I feel like these teachers need to focus a lil more on their jobs. This school also has no dress code once I went to school with my red shoes and red cap with the school shirt and sum red home shorts and the principal outside said to me(You match very good). This school also teaches the same things to yr 7s and yr 10s as all of them are mixed in one class for example my math's class when I was in yr 9 had a bunch of yr 7s unit so I was jus learning the same thing as them. Also the cafeteria has sum good food but the lady overpriced everything 3x the price she bought it for. If u want your kids to be successful in there life plz do not send them to this school or anywhere near Ormiston junior collage (ojc)ThanksStudent who has studied here for 2.5yrs

I hate to be a critic, though I do believe that the school can improve on multiple things. Some involve the learning, but I can rant about it when I get back. The school knows some of its pros and cons, and maybe what to work on. But hey, it’s a new school and I’m sure it’ll get better in the future.Right now, I’m uncomfortable with the way of learning, but only because I’m not used to the way things work in New Zealand. The staff and teachers are fun and quirky, the students are alright. Bullying here isn’t something I see happening around the school often, which comes almost as a surprise to me.It’s an alright school, really. Though it could improve on its academics, you’re sure to learn some social skills which will definitely be useful in the future.

So far I have been at OJC since 2020. And over the past four years that I have been a student at OJC. I can say that it is a wonderful working environment, and it has quite a lot of opportunities that people can pursue. Clubs and Extra Curriculars like Chess Club, Filmmakers Club, you could even learn how to use softwares like Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects and many more. MAC time is also an opportunity to form new friendships and bonds, however the only downside in my personal opinion is Badges but that’s all. I rate this school a 10/10.

This school is terrible! During the holidays and the school time the school hack into student’s iPad and control the students iPad and watch what there going all the time and the students have no privacy at all!!! Also you don’t learn anything in his school like I’m math class you make toys for the kindergarten kids, they also play a lot of game in English class and other class. in year 8 they learn the thing at students learned in year 4 just a waste of time the teacher don’t even care if you are late or not they don’t even care if you go to school !? They just wasted you time and that all. Also don’t need to were school uniforms last time there was thing girl that wore a bikini to school, people in this school vape and be racism to other people but the teacher don’t even care last time his Indian girl called a Chinese boy tomato face and a Cambodia boy told a girl to “go back to your country and cook for you husband ”.This school is so disgusting when I hear the schools name I feel so disgusting why would anyone go to his school and waste their time
