Good place to fish ... but it was better when it was for big ships coming in .

This is a finger wharf jutting into Wellington harbour, located next to a gentle marina. It is the home of a new apartment building, a first class restaurant (Whitebait) , a great cafe (Mojos) and a modern gym. It's open to the public so it's a lovely walk along the wharf for a great view of the city, it's a favourite spot for the local amateur fishermen, and it's 5 minutes away from Te Papa.

This is what used to be known as the Overseas Terminal and is where the passenger ships and the ferry to Lyttleton used to dock. Nowdays it's apartments, cafés and restaurants. You can walk (&drive) all the way around. Fishing is a popular pastime from this wharf.Parking is in the parking lot at the end of Herd St. $4 per hour or $12 for 12 hours.

CQW is located adjacent to Te Papa and is an integral part of the Wellington Waterfront. It is an iconic, tourist hotspot and offers an aesthetic backdrop for photographers of all skill-levels. Clyde Quay's precinct is popular with all groups as a leisure hangout and strollers, joggers, trishaw-cyclists, dog-walkers, etc. are a common sight. The wharf itself contains a low-level complex of commercial and residential premises and as a wind-breaker offer snug shelter for boats berthed in the marina. On fine nights the twinkling harbour lights (near, far, wherever they are) make this a very attractive spot to indulge in night photography.

Walk towards the end of the harbourfront (opposite New World Market) and you will see the instagrammable boathouse.

Upmarket apartments in a purpose built bespoke development on the site of the historic Overseas Terminal on the Wellington waterfront looking out towards the Hutt valley in one direction and Te Papa museum and marina in the other direction. On the ground level a number of retail shops exist including white bait, an upmarket sea food restaurant and mojo cafe, a popular weekend spot for a glass of wine and some fries.

There's some good eagle ray spotting between late October and mid March when they come to bask in the shallows not far from the boats at the wharf.A must for underwater photographers like myself.
