$7 for a thickshake that wasn't thick at all. Was 400ml of thin milky vanilla ice cream tasting shake. Tip top ice cream is $ 6 for 2ltr. 2 scoops and milk for $7 is a major disappointment. Wouldn't recommend stopping at this end of akaroa as there are better eateries further up the road

I am not a remotely demanding or impatient patron, but the service at Electric Kitchen was terrible. The establishment was not even slightly busy, yet the thickshakes took 15 minutes to come, and they were served warm and without icecream. They were undrinkable as the milk tasted off.The two paninis we ordered took around 25 minutes to arrive, which wouldn't necessarily be unreasonable if they were made from scratch but they weren't. 25 minutes to heat some bread. Thankfully they were just mediocre. Rubbery Quiche a shrivelled mess. $5 Chocolate croissant akin to crossaints you would buy in a supermarket five pack for the same price. Lifeless imitation of a plain croissant was heavy and dense like a lump of bread, far worse than you could get at any supermarket.Water from the cooler was somehow flavourful - and not in a good way. Like a puddle in your driveway. In terms of overall service, the lady at the counter was unable to work out how much it all cost. The older woman who worked there was pouring out unfinished milkshakes into the bushes outside the establishment which was hardly appetising. She also had trouble finding the table I was sat at out of the 4 total occupied tables. She was very unsure about whether or not the drinks we were served were milkshakes or thickshakes. These issues would all be individually excusable but they all amounted to a disastrous experience. The reason I write this review is not to unjustly slander the establishment, but to warn anybody who might think of dining here. The Electric Kitchen is a stain on Akaroa.

Torn between the two and the three star as I don't know whether I was amused, bemused or confused by the bizarre antics of the counter staff. Every word delivered was met with perplexed quizical glances. I'm not Shakespeare, Clancy or Mansfield but surely my Kiwi anglaise is sufficiently intelligible to the average native speaker. I don't know why I was received so weirdly given that I came into the store with the volition to bestow currency into your counter. I second the first commentator too regarding the shake. It may have rocked my wallet but it certainly didn't titillate the taste buds.

ordered a thickshake ($8) on a very hot day. the shake was stale at room temperature. I am not sure how long the milk had been left on the kitchen bench. mind you it was a hot day. lack of flavour and lukewarm temp make me doubt if there was any ice cream in the shake.let's not forget it took 15 mins to get a shake.

Very understaffed. :( Waited at the counter for a good 5 minutes and were completely ignored. Advertised vegan food but there wasn't any. We really wanted to order smoothies but got completely ignored.

The only spot for coffees and pies that are garunteed bang on in this whole town! Need caffeine? Saowani is the lady to give it to you then you so much for my last 8 years of perfect, velvety coffee I'll be coming in again soon!

Hands down best coffee in the banks pininsular. Tried their homemade pies, the Thai Red Curry one was really tasty. Awesome cafe to relax when the suns out as well

It did not look clean. There was a fly in the fridge and dirty dishes from previous customers were left on most of tables. They also mixed my order. Bythough, the coffee and sweets were so tasty. They just need more staff.

Decent corner coffee shop with a nice outside space for eating. They ran out of pies and quiches but the croissant was tasty!

Was okay. Wouldn't recommend if you are gluten free. The gf items in the cabinet were on the same plate and touching the non gluten free stuff. Dissapointed since they advertise on their board outside.
