Catlins - Newhaven Holiday Park, Surat Bay

An absolute gem of a place. We had a powered site right next to the beach. There are great walks you do either via the beach or via a forest. The wildlife is abundant with seals, birds and lots of other interesting little creatures, loved it! The owners are so helpful and friendly. The facilities are clean and well stocked with everything you need for a stay excellent kitchen, pots and pans etc, lovely cosy lounge, board games.

Just spent 4days at the most amazing spot Newhaven Camping Ground with the most fantastic views the host was so welcoming nothing was a bother. Camp facilities just perfect we will be back a huge thankyou

We had a powered sight with a sea view and the view was stunning. The whole camp is well set up, immaculately clean, well run, and very cute. Ablution, laundry, kitchen, dining and lounge block is one of the best we have seen. If you're doing the Catlins, this holiday park is a must visit in our opinion

One of my favourite places to stsy so far on Sth Island. We paid $40 for a csmpervan with 2 people on a powered site. Showers $2. Small park, which we liked, with cabins, campervans and tents. The amenities block was clean and had heaps of stuff provided. The lounge room was a great place to meet other travellers and relax or read. Very economical friendly with composting, separating rubbish and a camp garden! We picked zucchini and cooked on the BBQ for dinner - yummy. A coffee cart round the corner, next door to the point car park (very good coffee). The highlight was the surrounding environment. The boys, the beach, the seals and sea lions. Amazing.

Great little budget friendly camp spot right by the beach and a 5 min walk to see the wild sea lions. Very quiet and relaxing and clean amenities!

Small campsite - maybe 12 campsitesand 10 cabins (approx.)Overall tidy and adequate for a single nights stay. Beach walk to spot the sea lions the highlight.

Where to start, possibly my favourite place in all of NZ, mainly to do with location. If you want to see lots of sea lions, Surat Bay is the place to be. It’s literally on the holiday parks doorstep. One minute walk away. We had the whole bay to ourselves on more than one occasion for sunset walks or morning strolls. Also really close to other fantastic natural wonders, Mcleans waterfall is stunning. The hosts of the site were very friendly and helpful. Our room had 4 beds, small kitchen, enough heating for when it got a bit chilly and large bathroom. There is separate building with a living room and kitchen which was perfect for when we just wanted to chill and watch a dvd (yes, they have LOTR and many others). Can’t recommend highly enough.

Loved loved loved it here! Perfect sized campground, clean and tidy, a hut filled with little bikes, scooters etc that the kids loved, along with a trampoline and with the beach being literally a minute walk ya just can’t get much better!We can’t wait to come back! New favourite spot for sure!!Thanks heaps :)

A bit messy. Sites aren't level. Trail to the beach (the best asset) was overgrown. Wifi was great. Amenities were clean, but 1/2 the cooker elements were dead. You have to pay extra for hot water.

Lovely place to stay. Great location, right on the beach. You can walk all the way to Cannibal Bay (3 km) along the sandy beach. Beautifully clean, comfortable bed in the cabin (A) and fabulous hosts. Love the way they gently (and artfully!) remind you that they’re on rainwater, so we minimise any waste of this precious resource. Will definitely stay again.
