Mt Sunday Summit
We arrived on a sunny day and the view from the top of Mt Sunday is one of the best views I have ever seen. An enormous area of flat land surrounding Mt Sunday and a ring of mountains in the distance, it is truly majestic. We also stayed at the lodge nearby which was very convenient as its a bit of a drive, the road to get there is mostly gravel, its long and rough but is totally worth the journey.

Mt Sunday is one of the most amazing places in New Zealand, it offers such great 360 degree views that you just want to stay for hours on end.The place is also the filming location of Edoras in the Lord of the Rings and a must see site for any fans of the movie. There is a parking area 20 minutes from Mt Sunday.

For me it was one of the most peaceful places in New Zealand! We’ve had the area just for ourselves the whole day! It was unbelievable to be surrounded by this absolutely incredible nature! Beside that as a huge LOTR fan of course I enjoyed Edoras/Rohan totally! This is definitely a day/area I will remember forever!

The drive out here is a long gravel road, which will test your tires and suspensions, but the views from Mt. Sunday are worth it! Absolutely incredible on a sunny day! If you come at the right time you can eavesdrop on a Lord of the Rings tour and get all the information about the movie scenes shot here for free!

Amazing place to visit, especially if you are in to the lord of the rings story as much as i am.I went there with a lord of the rings tour and got to hold Aragorns sword and Gimilis axe. We got a great guide who has very informative about how they made the set for the movies and everything. It's really worth the trip if you are a nerd like me.

From what I understand LOTR commercialized tours are no longer authorized here but this place is still a fantastic visit even if youre by yourself. The views are breathtaking and the feeling of standing there is completely surreal.Would highly recommend taking shoes or pants that can get wet if it has been raining though, because some areas will flood or get very muddy.
