Porters Lodge

We visited South Island last July and it was winter. Our group meant to stay at the Porter's Lodge for only a night but snow storm happened and we got stranded for another day, but that was the best place to get stranded I reckon, they allowed us to keep our room and booked us for another night. The place is cosy and warm despite the harsh winter weather, the staff were so nice and very helpful. The food was amazing and not overpriced considering it's location. The place was just so beautiful and my whole experience there is something I would cherish. Our group is so much grateful for the big help the manager Jake made so we could safely drive our way out. Will definitely love to come back.

Friendly and helpful staff whilst sitting outside in wonderful alpine surroundings.But mostly… BEST hamburger I’ve had in a long time. Perfectly cooked, quality ingredients. My partner had the fish and chips, also totally impressed. Great drinks menu. Non alcoholic, cocktails, wine and beer. We’ll be back for sure. I’d drive from Christchurch for the burger alone!!Thanks Porters Team.

Our plan were changed due to Gabrielle Cyclone changed our flight, hence we didn’t manage to stay there over night as we wish for. However our afternoon time spending there was really nice and wonderful hosted by the kind staffs Vera and Benny. We rent their bike with 50% off rate and enjoy our very first mountain bike, beautiful views, delicious food… we would love to stay there again when we visit castle hill area.

Porters Lodge is a lovely place to stay. I have stayed twice as a quick getaway from Christchurch. The staff are friendly and they keep the place really clean and well organised. The food options are surprisingly good and tasty.

We are regular to Porters and they nail it every single time. Great beer, great food (and prices) friendly staff and atmosphere. Board games/colouring for the kids, and a variety of seating options both inside and out. Unbeatable views. Wish I was there now! Thanks Porters team for always doing a great job.

We visited in November and we decided to stay at Porter’s Lodge for our final night in NZ before returning our campervan to Christchurch and flying home. It was a great experience and the staff were very friendly. It was a great price for a powered site and they allowed us to use their facilities. The showers were hot and bathrooms were clean.The restaurant had a great old school ski lodge feel to it and I could imagine it would be loads of fun if a good group of people were staying overnight. Nevertheless, we chatted up some other travelers which was nice. Our 3 year old had fun playing with all the games and various items in the cabinet. The food was quite good, but it was a small menu (which was fine because we were only there for one night).Thanks for a great final night in NZ!

We visited Porters Lodge once again on our way to the annual Coast to Coast race. This is our 5th year in a row and we've booked again for next year. Its a magic place to stay.The rooms are clean and tidy and as you would expect from this kind of lodge :-)There is powered and non powered parking for motorhomes too.A good selection of beer & wine and some great pub grub.Thanks team :-)Rob, Brenda and the rest of the kayaking gang

The lodge was very comfortable, the staff very friendly and the ambience warm. We arrived as a family and the games were a winner with the kids. The 6 pax room was very comfortable and the common showers very warm. The location is perfect 10 min from Castle rocks and 55 min from Arthur’s pass.
