Carrington Estate

Had lunch at Resort restaurant yesterday. Facilities are run down and dated. Food choice was very lacking and on par with old Cobb & Co, nothing appeared fresh, most items deep fried. Staff quite inexperienced. Very disappointing as we expected higher quality. Would certainly not revisit or recommend.

The online menus for the restaurant and cafe are different but the signage at Carrington is confusing. The Vue Cafe listed online does not get a mention anywhere onsite so it's difficult to know if it's the cafe or the restaurant. Matters are made worse by the cafe on the hill being closed. I think we ate in the restaurant.It's July, so its not the tourist season and there weren't a lot of people in the restaurant. Staff was at a minimum and the menu was planned around items one can buy at the supermarket - chicken bites, pre-fried fish etc so not very exciting and it's a long way to go for something so ordinary. The menu prices did not reflect the standard of the dishes. They were doing their best for the low season but disappointing, nonetheless.The setting is lovely.

Staff were very friendly and very accommodating! The food is amazing!! We ordered so many things on the menu and could not fault any of it! Best eggs Benedict we have eaten! We will definitely be back!

We stayed at Carrington Resort for 3 nights to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant in charge, a middle aged big woman was extremely rude. She changed our booking to 8.30pm inspite of the restaurant having only 3 tables booked at the original time of 7pm. When we arrived at 8.30, she kept us waiting for over 20 minutes pretending to work on a computer, before showing us our table ! Having owned restaurants and hotels, I can honestly say she is a total disgrace to Hospitality !Our entrees took over an hour to arrive. When we enquired with the woman she said she will check with the Chef and didn’t get back to us. When the food finally arrived, the fish was raw and the chowder barely had 3 tablespoons per serving !We ordered some food and soups for room service on the first night we arrived and the empty dishes were not cleared for the entire time we were there for 3 nights ! We reminded them every single day to clear the dishes and our entire room stunk with the smell of stale food for our entire stay !We are always travelling around New Zealand as well as around the world to France, USA, Singapore and this will definitely be Hands Down the worst service we have ever experienced in our lifetime! We will definitely not recommend Carrington Resort to anyone !

We went to the winery cafe bar for an evening meal. The location and views are spectacular unfortunately that was totally lost with the service and food . We arrived at 6 ( Saturday night ) and were immediately told what wasn’t on the menu (pizzas , fish and burgers) which was basically the entire menu . We were then told the kitchen was about to close so we need to order soon because the kitchen staff are kranky. Online info says it’s last call is 8 pm.The food was mediocre, all reheated pre prepped , nothing was fresh and not worth the pricing. There is nothing 5 star about this ‘estate’. Won’t be back.

We dined at the resort restaurant, the waitress was fantastic, pity about the food, small servings, big prices and we 5 will never return too be burnt again, if that's what the new chef dishes up I suggest you get the gardener to become the chef.the carrot shown in the picture was raw and stayed on the plate.

WE paid almost $400 for a room, which was nice and spacious with a nice view.However when we went to run a bath or shower the water that came out of the tap was brackish brown. We tried several times with the same result. There is a Health & Safety issue here.We couldn't brush out teeth, shower or bath.This is totally unacceptable

Went to the restaurant up the hill where the Wine cellar is. Told no pizzas but then people after us had pizza.. The seafood platter was so average.. everything over cooked.. frozen and heated up.. oysters were green.. staff did their very best. Venue has been neglected for year.. very run down facilities! Overpriced for what you get.. regardless of the location/view.

A mix of excellent verses poor. We booked twin beds and got a king bed between my friend and I. This was finally sorted by staff with some hesitancy but were compensated. Walking to the room there are no lights and minimal signage to the restaurant. Staff are wonderful however no cutlery such as teaspoons or sugar for coffee were available in the room. We found out on site that the heated pool wasn't working which was the main reason for booking. View is beautifull and staff are great however quality touches and website needs to say what is actually available and price needs to reflect this

The water was very brown and got progressively darker as it rained. After showering in the hotel, my face became red and swollen. The waiter at the restaurant was also very rude. I wonder what kind of water was used in the restaurant? There is definitely a Health & Safety issue here.
