The Art House Backpackers

May not be the fanciest hostel around but it is very welcoming and warm. The host is very super friendly and there's smiles on everyone's face who's staying there. The downtown village is minuts away and the beach in just across the road.Just beautiful!

Very basic shared amenities and choice of share or single rooms. Quick turnover of guests. Waterfront location close to CBD and tourist amenities

Helen were so helpful and her husband kindness as well! Nice location nice view! Had a good impression when visit to Napier!

The Napier Arthouse Backpackers is historic but it has all you need. Perfect location on Marine Parade and the beachfront.

It's just an hostel as other. Nothing special, clean enough but not super clean. Really old structure, really nice reception.

This place is a working hostel so it's not really suitable for people coming and going for a couple of nights. Pretty much everyone here lives here long term. When I arrived after 14 hours of travelling via the ferry and a 5 hour bus all I wanted was a nice hot shower and clean bed to get in. Tried two showers and they were both cold. So I asked the receptionist and she told me maybe wait an hour because everyone has come back from work so they've used all the hot water. So firstly that's rediculous I shouldn't have to wait an hour for hot water and i did wait and there was none so I had a cold shower to cleanse myself before getting into a dusty looking sheet which was put on the wrong way round so I took it off and it was quite dusty and looking at the matress it was covered in plastic toggles and had a massive emulsion paint brush splodge over it so i feel i was sleeping on something probably stored in a garage at one point. I also had to ask for a pillow case as I wasn't given one. Thankfully the next morning I should actually shower with hot water. There are too many people living here basically and they don't have enough showers and toilets because the house wasn't built for this capacity of people. I'm guessing thats why there is a sign to charge you for using eftpos, which isn't an actual thing, no one charges for use of eftpos unless you want to make people pay cash for some suspicious reason. Im guessing it's so they can somehow lie about the amount of people staying here because there aren't adequate facilities or space for all the people here. So they probably fix their books to show what they want.I would not stay here again.

the rooms are really small and a part of the accomodation were under construction.. the fridge froze our food and the reception was always closed. we felt very undesired.the hostel was on the beach near the city centre and the facilities were clean.We had to pay 5NZD after the check out for using the facilities.

The rooms are so small, that you fall over other peoples stuff all the time. You won't find a mirror that sits above a sink, seems kinda intentionally placed, so no male comes up with the idea to shave or whatever girls do... The kitchen is too small, all knifes are blunt, all pots have a thick coating of whatever on the bottom, so take a long time to heat up. The matresses are old and worn. You don't even get warm water in the showers. For what do I pay so much, if not for a good bed and facilities? Probably for the cool staff. A wait, there Is NONE. Just a young as backpacker girl, who is kinda in charge over everything. Worst backpacker in Napier.
