Very photographic place for Sunsets. Plus if you have your microlight aircraft licence you may be able to fly off the beach just can not confirm this as of yet.

Great typical West Coast beach, black sand. The lookout just above the playground has an awesome view. The castlecliff park is great, huge slide, flying fox, a favorite place of ours. Highly recommended for both young kids and teenagers.

A beautiful place with a brooding sort of atmosphere and a menacing undercurrent that will pull you off your feet. Not a place for weak swimmers or young children.Beach is covered with logs and 'slash' from forestry operations, but it may be increased from normal because of recent weather events.

This beach is so cool! It was too cold to swim when I went but the sand is BLACK. And there are so many interesting shells and pieces of wood lying around.

Clear day you can see the Mountain!! Park right by beach. huge amount of parking. no freedom parking. public toilets by the park on right side on way down to beach. Unusual toilets as you have to grab your toilet paper as you come into toilets but before you go into toilet cubicles!!!!

Castlecliff Beach
Black sand beach within close walking distance to the popular Citadel Cafe and highly recommended campground and playground at the end of Rangiora Street. Plenty of parking and space to run the dog or kick a ball. Swimmin is recommended between the flags in front of the Pavillion where Surf guards patrol in the summer. Beware of the rips and undertow, stay safe.
