Great place to stay or visit even if you're not skiing. It's gorgeous at sunrise and the birdlife is fairly active. There is a lodge associated with Lincoln university here (useful to know if you have the right friends). For the off season the mountain bike trails through here are good value.

They have accommodation on the mountain which we went to so that we could have an early start the next morning. The lodge is a short walk up the path from the carpark, keep an eye out for the signs. The Koroheke Lodge stay included dinner and breakfast the next day. The rooms were backpackeresque. The drying room was huge though. They did have Wifi but you had to pay for it through Zenbu. The food was decent and there was a bar on the top floor. You were assigned duties for the time you are there to he;p the upkeep of the lodge. The ticket office is down the road from both the lodge and the carpark. They do accept the Chill pass here. You get the pass as well as a tow belt. they also sell glove protectors for $20 if needed. All their tows are on the right side, which made it hard for me as a goofy snowboarder. They did help with how to get on and I just practised until I got it. My right hand did get really tired since it was used for both grabbing the rope and holding the nutcracker. The snow was amazing, as was the terrain. There were just so many places to go down from. Although most of the snow was lumpy, there were still some untouched pockets which were really fun to ride down. There is a day lodge/cafe at the top. It is walkable from after the middle tow but easier to head down from the top.Although I spend most of the morning learning how to use the tow, I did enjoy the mountain once I was able to get to the top. It wasn't super busy so it was a nice place to learn rope tows if you need to. Although it is one of the further fields from Christchurch, I really enjoyed my time there.

Great ski area for intermediate skiers who want to improve their skiing in ungroomed splendor. Good for advanced skiers who want a good rewarding days skiing.

I can see how this could be the an awesome place to be after a good snow... maybe the best place I have skied because it is so secluded. But without grooming, it can really suck if it ices up. They ended up closing the mountain because of poor snow conditions and the top lift wasn't working while we were there. This is certainly not a place for families with kids as the tow rope system is complex, difficult to use and potentially finger crushing. They also say breakfast and dinner is included... which it was... and is fairly basic, but dinner was extremely small and I was glad we brought our own stash of food. I ate as much of our food as they served during all of dinner in the first night... and I am not a huge, growing teenager. It was still beautiful and there is little pretentiousness here.

Please note that the track requires you to cross a narrow gravel hill (avalanche zone). And it took us 5hrs in total to complete the track instead of 3hrs on the sign post. Please allow time for this. View was ok and you will travel through different kind of trees and scenery.

As much as the challenges can be significant, the rewards can be immense. It's not a big mountain in absolute terms, but it often looks, behaves and skis like one -- perhaps more so than any venue of comparable size and accessibility.
