Full house, that's 22 in the hut and two more in a tent. Good atmosphere and great views.

Stunning view at the hut. Took roughly four and a half hours to reach following the Ruapene and Tirohaunga tracks from Grey road carpark. The walk back along Mahaukura Track took roughly five hours. Would definitely recommend this loop as in reverse order you will face a much more formidable incline up the mountain peaks towards the hut.

Incredible hut, great views. To get there, be preparoed for pleanty of mud, as you won't be able to avoid it at all times of year. If you are planning to stay overnight, there isn't a fireplace at the hut so take lots of warm gear during winter also!

This is a great hut. Spacious, a good amount of seating, tables and bench space.Very grateful for the running water up there! It is a tad bit cold when the weather turns, but that’s what you pack for.Really liked the information set into the tables and around the hut, gives you a better feel of the history of the place. The views are really stunning from the deck and the helipad. The toilets are really great in comparison to what you get elsewhere! (Be kind and leave your unused toilet rolls for those coming up, some of us forget little things like that!)I definitely recommend a trip up to the Pahautea Hut and at least an overnight stay.P.S. $5 a night is a steal to stay somewhere as scenic as this! (Just make sure you book ahead of time!)

This is my favourite hut. Bring your own lighting, toilet paper and something to heat food/water with if needed. Good price and great views

It’s a good hut and a great place to spend the night (I’d recommend the Hihikiwi track to get up there). My only complaint is that it’s a very cold hut. Be sure to take warm socks and sandals because your feet will get cold wandering around the place.

Amazing hut! There are nice campsites around too. My only complaint is there is no heater. Take plenty of warm clothing. Seems like a weird oversight for such an amazing, new hut. Thanks DOC for building and maintaining this hut!

A nice hut, however was disappointed there was no fireplace because we could of used it after the muddy tramp up to dry our boots. Very good view and quite nice that there is two separate rooms

Quite an effort to get to but worth the strain. Had really cloudy weather so couldn't see a thing but I'm sure there's quite a brow view from up there. Camped in the campsites as hut was fully booked. Tip camp in the furthest site from the hut, far quieter there.

Pretty decent hut. Water access and plenty of room to move around. The only complaint I would have is that there is now fireplace, which might pose an issue for trampers during cold winter days, where it starts snowing like it did for us.
