A slightly longer walk than stated but well worth it. Seals lazing about and sand dunes that seems to go on forever!!

Absolutely loved this place. The carpark has a cafe with loads of refreshments. Sandpit and some toys for the kids. A friendly peacock and ducks. Nice to hydrate before u start the walk upto the beach.

The actual walk was amazing, certainly a must do. We did the 20 min walk which suited us. It was so beautiful and the beach gorgeous. We had a good day so no sand in our eyes! A downside was the toilets I think DOC ones. They had 2 of our party coming out dry retching! We have done a lot of travelling and seen a lot of bad toilets.....might be time for them to have a clean up/out!

Interesting - but New Zealand's best beach" is a gross exaggeration. Worth a look though. Visited 8:30 am 1 hour after low tide. Saw no seals

A well placed car park at the bottom of a dusty gravel road (not the best for a camper can but we managed it) however a cute cafe on the side is a perfect welcome back after the walk to and from the beach and dunes which takes about 30 minutes each way. Don’t let that put you off, you will be well rewarded by the views, dunes, sand sea and other wildlife at this corner of the South Island. There are seals so take care where you are going as they take a break in all the rocky nooks. Lovely to see. The car park itself has space for probably 40 cars / vans. There is also a camp site just 500m down the road.

This beach is one of those magic spots in NZ and to see the seal pups, at low tide playing in the pools, is what makes this place extra special.

Worth the trip and short walk. A beautiful beach so take jangles or go bare foot but it is only half the experience if you can not get your feet wet.
