Lovely loop walk to a tranquil lagoon. If you don’t have time for that climb the lookout. If you aren’t fit enough for that the beach and stream are still a very pretty sight.

Hard to believe that spots like this are free for us to enjoy. A couple of great short walks.

We did the dune lake walk. A nice short 15-20 minute walk, although the best views are obtained from the wooden lookout you can climb at the start of the track (so make sure you climb up this structure!). There are also a couple of nice lookouts on the dune lake track.

I visited Ship Creek Beach in Aug 22, and it was great. Isolated and almost eerie during the late afternoon with no one else on the beach. As the photos show, there is a lot of Driftwood on the beach. It's not safe for swimming due to strong currents, and there are no lifesavers, so don't risk it.

This pocket of boardwalk peace and transient hibernation from a windy roads intensity is nothing short of rejuvenating for the driving tension of a focused mind on a set journey to a destination. We loved the wooded beach stroll, quite beach ambiance and quintessential beauty of a safe respite for a quick snack. The grassland lake mid walk was a brilliant stop because we enjoyed the mid-afternoon sun warming us as the lake was only occupied by a few native birds giving a solitude to our minds and eased our thoughts right away to tranquility.

This is a must-see en route up the West Coast. A beautiful and beautifully presented walk combining beach, woodland, and lakeside all within an hour. A credit to DoC.At the main area and then along the pathway there are steps up to look-out points. So keep an eye out for them and make these short climbs which command great vistas. And there’s a clean and tidy toilet block too!

Another beautiful stop, with small lake, beach and little walking track with viewpoints, lots of sand flies so be prepared!

To the left, of the main entry/carpark a short boardwalk leads over the sand to a beach view and off this a pathway around 20 - 30 mins return and up about 30m of stairs to a viewing platform with views down the coast. Parking for all sized vehicles available and some good displays around to look over.Tip - remember to take the sandfly repellant

Awesome hiking area with beach access, toilets, information panels and a two storey lookout with panoramic views of the beach, river and sand dunes. A must do if you are driving up the West Coast. There's plenty of parking available including a wheelchair accessible entrance. There's two walks you can do here one in the sand dunes to the dune lake lookout with an amazing view down the coast and one up the river to a brilliant kahikatea swamp with some superb giant kahikatea trees.
