The whole process was smooth. They held a $375 deposit including an add on insurance on the 21 of April. Car was returned with no problem so they officially deducted another $175 from my account for the insurance which is fair. However, the $375 deposit is still on hold after one month. Wrote them an email and there was no reply.

Staff super friendly but it takes a really long time to process customers at the desk. There were two customers in front of me and I waited more than 30 minutes. This seems to be the norm for all rental car collections. We provide all the info when booking the car online but it still seems to take so long at the pick up counter - all we hear is the ‘tap tap tap’ of the keyboard for what seems an agonising amount of time. This process hasn’t changed in years despite technology. It’s a mystery. I’m curious what info is going into the booking considering the amount of info provided at the time of booking online.Queenstown Airport is compact and all the car rental desk are located just outside of customs so not difficult to find.The signage for the car park is a bit of a miss, told to follow symbol on the ground but at nighttime when I collected my car it’s a bit difficult to see.

The pick up process and the car itself was all satisfactory. However the return process and then the charging of the car has been totally abysmal. 10 days ago I returned the car, 45 minutes ahead of schedule. The counter at the airport was super busy, so the representative asked me to put the keys into the drop off box. Two days later, I found out that I had been charged for one extra day as they had waited two hours to process my drop off. I then tried to raise this Europcar error with their telephone call centre. They demanded I provide proof which I was lucky to be able to provide as I had a time-stamped photo of the car at the airport at drop off. They then agreed to refund the extra day’s difference. I’ve eventually received this, but in the course of this, they have charged me ANOTHER two days car rental which is pending on my debit card and I’m not able to use these funds. I raised this with the call centre supervisor last week and they promised to escalate the issue. I’m still waiting for any more communication from them or resolution 10 days after drop off.I think this is a most atrocious case of customer service, and I will never be using Europcar again and will certainly be recommending against any of my friends or family doing likewise.17.3.2023 As a footnote to my review of 3 weeks ago, Europcar responded, virtually immediately, with the offer below for me to connect with their customer relations team via the link (to Europcar UK) shown. I emailed them within 24 hours and three weeks later I have not had one response to that email nor has the outrageous overcharge been refunded. What a shallow offer! Zero genuine respect or care for customers.

Vehicle have been to KIA 7 seats too spec almost brand new original booked Mitsubishi outlander Very high spec. Heat and ventilation seats , HUD, premium interior . Memory seat etc. I was 100% recommended Europcar . Also thanks Accor their loyalty program I been linked to their privilege elite vip member so I guess that’s why I been upgraded a lot .

Unsafe operator! We booked a vehicle with snow package. We were lied to directly! They told us that the vehicle was a 4wd. We went to the snow. Only to get stranded up there with a 2wd and 1 snow chain. That’s correct. After the vehicle began to slip and slide and the attendant checked and found it’s a 2wd. We went to fit chains only to find 1 chain in the bag.So that was awesome. Completely stranded with kids and gear on top of a snowy mountain.The company lied and put my family in unsafe conditions.How is this allowed to happen in a tourist industry. No regards for safety.So currently juggling gear and tired, hungry kids while lined up to buy tickets for a bus down the mountain.This is what you can look forward to when you go skiing in NZ and expect to rely on Europcar to get you there and back.And all I have heard from them in return is this rubbish automated reply with a link to email them. (See below). What an absolute rubbish company!
