Chop Hairdressing

I've been going to Josh at Chop for over a decade and have recommended him to countless friends and family members. He has seen my hair through my entire twenties and into my thirties now, always giving me great cuts that maintain really well. He has worked with me at many lengths (one of my favourites was a very cool pageboy style with the cleanest undercut) and is a total wizard at colour, having taken my dark blonde/ brown hair to platinum and different shades of copper and auburn over the years; colours that always got big compliments.When I lived in Auckland I would wait until a trip to Wellington to make sure Josh was cutting my hair, and randomly had a colleague who also regularly flew to Wellington to see Josh!He has taught me tonnes on what works with my very fine hair and has been fantastic at giving me heavy bangs or all the way to my current favourite of a split fringe.I love his down-to-earth approach and great chats. Overall, love Chop as a salon for it's minimal style, nice drinks and always excellent music.

I got my hair done at Chop in 2022 and they did the most amazing job! When I arrived I was warmly greeted, asked if I wanted a tea or coffee, and had such lovely conversation with the hair dressers. I was distressed as my hair had been severely destroyed at a different salon previously, and the staff listened to me and reassured me they would fix it. The entire experience was full of kind bubbly chatter and I walked out of the salon feeling amazing. Would highly recommend and will most definitely be going back!

I went to Chop for the first time yesterday as it was conveniently close to work and had good reviews. I went in for a standard cut with Jake but he got it exactly how I wanted it (which hasn’t always been the case at previous salons) and will definitely be going back for the customer service alone. The salon was a very peaceful environment and I usually get quite nervous going to new hairdressers for the sole reason of having to talk to a stranger for an hour however Jake made me feel instantly comfortable and was a wonderful person to talk and have a laugh with. Will definitely be going back and recommend this salon to others.

I came in needing my hair fixed from another salon, and Jake literally rescued my hair. I can’t thank him enough for his time, patience and great customer service. Shout out to the super lovely team at Chop and Jake for making me feel great again and for being able to fix a haircut I thought was unsalvageable!!!

Lovely salon, great location. I have seen Brie from the beginning, who is an excellent stylist and a particularly expert colourist. She’s friendly & knowledgeable plus will make recommendations if that’s what you need/want. Easy choice for me to keep going back.

I went to see Brie today and I am thrilled with the results. The tone of the colour is perfect and she executed my cut exactly how I like it. My hair looks super healthy - I will definitely be back!

Got my hair done twice by brie now, Shes amazing at maintaining my blonde, always nails what I want, great communication through her socials, and the service is great! Very cute dog that visits through the salon too :)

After hearing glowing reviews from friends I was very excited to try Chop out - sadly, I wish I hadn't.Some background - I was on crutches so mobility was very limited.Similar to another reviewer they were running 15 mins late (which ended up being 20 minutes) for my appointment which they called me about as I was pulling up to park on College st - at the time I thought, nice, they let me know ahead ... communication ... tick. I ended up moving to Moore Wilsons as I waited to avoid paying more $$ for parking. A bit of rigmarole in between due to my lack thereof mobility meant I was about 5 or so minutes late on top of their 20 minutes.Once arrived the stylist was super rude, she didn't even bother to greet me or tell me her name and the consult was just uncomfortable. Great first impressions. She then moved on to do a bit hacking at my hair (no exaggeration -read to the end) and then sent me to the basin for a wash.While washing my hair she proceeded to bang the shower head around the basin whilst being very rough with my hair. At this point I felt pretty rubbish and thought I needed to say something so I told her that if she didn't want to cut my hair that's fine but to say something before going any further because I didn't want my first and last experience at Chop to be horrible. I explained to her again why I was late (due my injury and having to move parks). I feel like we'd resolved the issue and by the end of the cut, I felt good about my new do.Lo and behold, a week or so later while tying my hair up, I noticed that a section below my ear (towards my neck) had been completely hacked. It wasn't one of those pretty little bits in the front of your hair, you couldn't even use it as a mullet or rats tail. It was 100% done on purpose and months after the cut I am still fuming every time I tie up my hair.Worst experience ever. Well done.

Brie is fantastic! I’ve been getting my ridiculous curls cut with her for two years now and she always does a wonderful job. Friendly, accommodating team, great peppermint tea and cold brew – couldn’t recommend more!
