This is a review of the restaurant, we did not stay at the hotel. This place is like New Zealand Deliverance, but the people were friendly and the food was great. 5 stars

The Lumsden Hotel
Looks like the family have taken over the bar as their lounge. Lounge suites had two people lying down asleep, unfolded laundry in a basket on a table, children and dogs running around. Whole place very run down. On a positive drinks were nice and cold.

This hotel is a kiwi classic. Family that owns it were so accomodating, we were a large group staying in town for a wedding, they drove us to and from the wedding and sorted us out with drinks before hand. Food was really good and the live music on a Friday night was a vibe. Will stop by here again on our next visit down south!

Been staying here with my husband for four nights and it was not really bad. The only things our concers is the bed. Instead of double bed, it's a single bed. That's make us feel uncomfortable every time going to bed which is make us can't rest properly by the time we back to the hotel, after whole day doing some walk or hike around Fiordland..Also the hotel seems need to maintain more, as so many rusty in the windows thats make it hard to open or close, and the bed sheet also need to change often. We found some stain on our bed sheets and on the pillow cases as well.

Such a classic Kiwi pub in a little town. The young family who own the pub made us feel so welcome and really looked after us.Uber has quite reached Lumsden but team at the hotel kindly dropped and picked us up from Dipton.Amazing pizzas, cold beer and a spot on raspberry and coke!Will be back again, that's for sure.

The Lumsden Hotel
My partner and our 2 kids (21 months and 5 months) had just had a 15 hour day travelling into NZ. We were travelling to Te Anau, Nothing was open to get dinner. We checked here to see if they were open, they weren't but the gentlemen opened the kitchen so our family could eat. Great food, amazing friendly family that owns it, who went above and beyond to help a tired, hungry family.

I do not recommend this place. It looks nice in the pictures but in fact it is very dirty and old. The room does not fit the description in the booking. Food in the restaurant is not bad but very very fatty and salty.

Stayed here for one night and absolutely loved the food and the friendly, hard working family that have taken on running the place. Three generations of them, and their lovely black lab dog, make this not like anything you'll find in the city. Order early before they get busy, stick to the bottled beer or wine to accompany the delicious food and you'll be sweet

Another last minute rush to find a place to sleep for the night on our South Island road trip. We decided on The Lumsden Hotel. A young family has just taken over this magnificent Hotel and we wish them all the best.
