Beautiful old pub overlooking the water. Wait staff extremely friendly and helpful, food was to die for and lots of beers on tap!Would live to frequent this place but just need someone to buy us a house in Russell. We are currently taking applications for sugar daddies and/or mammies.

Duke Of Marlborough Hotel
We didn't stay here but really enjoyed the 4-cheese platter for our light lunch at a waterfront table. All 4 cheeses were very good, as were the honey, relish & seeded crackers. We ordered extra crostini too, in preference to thin round rice crackers. The staff were very friendly & service was speedy.

Such an iconic old hotel. Beautifully maintained, great service a roaring fire, great musician .It was a treat to enjoy an atmosphere with some beautiful relics of the past. A shame we could only stay one night.Thank you.

From England, for us, the Bay of Islands and particularly Russell, is one of our favourite places.The Duke of Marlborough sits firmly at the top of our list of favourite Hotels here.A trip to New Zealand for our daughter's wedding in March was a great opportunity to visit the area again and we were lucky enough to book a table for four.A fabulous place, the menu superb, as was the quality of food and presentation. Service is excellent and both inside and outside, stunning views.Thoroughly recommended, a must visit place...

The Duke is like travelling back in time. It should be on Lonely Planet.Unbelievable decor.Our waitress was Japanese and her manaaki was extraordinary.And the food!OMG! The food!The burger was out if this world.And the chips?Unbelievable!We tortured it with a Marsden Estate Chardonnay, one of the best in Aotearoa.Not a hotel. This place is an experience!

Lovely sitting inside by the fireplace looking out over the bay with a cold beer and nice glass of white. Staff friendly and the atmosphere great. Would come back again if we visit. Thanks :-)

Duke Of Marlborough Hotel
We have just spent a couple of nights at the Duke of Marlborough - and rate our stay extremely high. All the staff - from reception when booking in, to the staff in the dining room - were all very professional, friendly and really went the extra mile to ensure you were well looked after. The dining room location is great, with every table placed so you can enjoy the magnificent sunsets. A great place to stay for celebrating special events.

Lovely location and the interior of the restaraunt was really quite amazing. Interesting very old colonial trading company style. The food was decent, enjoyable enough to share with the amazing view and setting. Also the local cream beer was absolutely stunning! Wish I could find it elsewhere. Can't comment on the accommodation but overall I thoroughly enjoyed the Duke.

Congratulations on maintaining this historic and iconic hotel to such a beautiful level of luxury. The presentation of our street front room with cute balcony was exceptional.Stunning artwork, beautiful curtains, comfortable beds, plump pillows and a beautifully tiled bathroom.The setting sun views over the water are breathtaking, whilst enjoying a drink and listening to fabulous music from the entertainer. The roaring fire in the lounge was a great spot to unwind.Thank you for such a wonderful visit.

Duke Of Marlborough Hotel
We had a lunch with two German friends and after having praised the Duke highly were very disappointed in the offering. The burgers were just OK but the accompanying chips were all less than 20mm in length and soggy as though from a warming drawer. The fish chowder was only warm, not hot, and much less flavoursome than we had previously enjoyed here. The risotto was a jellied mess. The table staff were friendly but very casual in their service and could do with some training. All this at Auckland prices, I would add. We decided not to have desserts here, paid the bill and left, not intending to be back, anytime soon.
