Rakaia Gorge Walkway
not overly scenic. was a a long weekend and very busy. car park full. I'm agile but found track narrow and slippery in places. have to be careful when approaching others at certain times.

Really nice walk, nice & flat mostly, not too advanced and suitable for most walkers. Great view at the top and lots of viewing areas for photos. Recommend heading to the top as it gives you the best views - can be done in under 3 hours at a moderate pace.

The entrance to this walk is at the end of the carpark. Walked to the lookout which was an hour round trip. Lots of different places to stop to look at the view. Sheltered area, no wind on the day I went. Easy walk of 10-15 minutes before it starts to climb up to the lookout. Bring proper shoes!

Beautiful area, must stop if you're driving along the Inland Scenic Route. Ideal for either a quick stop, or take one of the walking trails available for that extra special experience. Information boards available on the upper lookout on the South side of the river just off the bridge.

Rakaia Gorge Walkway
Lovely hidden spot that is worth exploring. The walkway is great for the first 20 or so minutes. The views are spectacular and the colour of the water bright blue. The path follows the river around from the top of the cliff. It is an easy going up and down trail. It does get steeper uphill the further you go. I didn't do the whole loop (4 hours return) just did 1 hour return. Could not find the 'lower lookout'. Unfortunately there are no trail maps on site. Worth walking a little bit along the trail to have a look, if you don't have much time. Photos show the views from the first part of the trail, around 10-15 minutes in. Car park is decent sized and has very clean flushable toilets with hand soap and sinks. Very quiet spot compared to other gorges in NZ.

What a lovely place for a walk or just to relax near the water! The water is amazingly green blueish. Popular location for jet boats as well to blast through the gorges. In summer the water is comfortable enough for a dip as well. Near the bridge is camping and also relax area with public toilets
