Our experience could not have been better. Despite booking at very late notice, the car we booked was ready and waiting for us the next morning after we got off the ferry. While it was a bit older, the Camry was ideal for four adults wanting to explore the island. Great communication from the company before, during and after the hire. We followed all the instructions given, so no unpleasant surprises. The roads on the eastern end of the island are pretty rugged so note that the T's and C's mean you are responsible for costs of breakdown or damage using them, unless you hire a 4WD.Petrol on the island is expensive - $40 for the day tripping around (about 80km I think) so the $60 per day fuel included charge, is not totally unreasonable depending on the model you hire. Thanks.

Their services were alright, but at least one of their vehicles could use extra maintenance. One would expect that a country such as New Zealand to have higher standards when it comes to vehicle safety and regular inspections.Rented a Toyota Yaris which made a strange noise all the time, the interior lights were not working and the headlights were barely functioning, I had to resort to long beam all the time.I emailed and called their office several times and no answer, they encourage you to email rather than ring them. I did not get a reply to my emails, I did not get a call back and if I missed one, they could have left a voice mail but that was not the case.I do hope they upgrade their services, or else they risk loosing customers.

Had a good initial experience of getting the car and dealing with the staff.Initial reception lady advised me to fill up the car on return or be charged a full tank of gas plus a $20 fee if we fail to comply, which I agreed is fair.Unfortunately when it came to filling up the car the cars fuel tank would not unlock no matter how many times I tried the release lever and I told the reception lady who advised me that it’s okay as the car sometimes jams the petrol lever and just to park the car. I went and parked the car at the drop off point and a male who works for them cleaning the cars asked if I had put the receipt of the petrol station in the glove box, I repeated the same story to him and he also advised me that it’s okay.Couple of days pass and I get an email from the company charging my credit card for the full tank of gas and the $20 fee for not fuelling the car which I challenged. I replied to the email saying I do not mind paying for the fuel but I am challenging the $20 fee for not fuelling up the car when two members of the staff said I don’t need to worry about it.I was advised that they would discuss with the manager and get back to me, still waiting 2 weeks on.Definitely using another company next time.

I was unsure of this place due to the bad reviews, but ended up going with them anyway as it was the cheapest option at short notice on the island. We walked up to the counter around 3pm and were able to get a car right away. I opted to pay for the extra insurance to reduce the excess to $0 after reading the less than favourable reviews here. Even with the extra - approx. $40 to $60 extra from memory it was still affordable ($160 for the day). The car was very old - a 2002 Mitsubishi air trek - but it was clean and did the job. We were able to return it as late as we wanted as well as there is an after hours key return drop box. Don’t be put off by the bad reviews and just protect yourself with the extra insurance.

Purely because the staff member or owner simply can’t handle constructive feedback - I’m writing a review here.Hired a car from these guys twice, my second time this week - make sure you read the small print - which they fail to tell you when you actually pay/collect the car. They did not tell us that they charge you for a full tank if you do not refill the tank. Seeing as we only drove for 30 minutes I would deem that as particularly unfair. Especially as they mentioned that they would only charge you an extra $20.Hire a bike instead!

Do not use this car rental company. My husband and I rented a car, It was dodgy from the start as they email you saying it’s not confirmed until they confirm availability, even though the website says the car is available and they have already taken your credit card details.Took 3 days of me calling them everyday before I got a confirmation email with their terms and conditions. They kept saying they would send confirmation and never did until the day before the booking. Then you find out there’s a 7 day cancellation policy which is ridiculous, and you have to sign toAgree to their terms and conditions. At this point I tried to cancel my booking as I hadn’t even signed the paperwork work but they wouldn’t let me.I pick up the car and they tell me once I return the car, to leave my personal fuel receipt in the glove box. This is unheard of.. I have rented many cars over the years and have never had to leave them my receipt from the gas station. Sounds like they are claiming tax/gst on their customers receipts. Absolutely disgusting. We filled the car up with $52 fuel and forgot to leave the receipt and drop it off. Next day I get an email saying due to the receipt not been left, they have charged my card a $20 refuel fee and $30 to fill the vehicle. This is impossible and a lie because we had already filled the vehicle. Now we have been battling getting our money back for the past 6 days and am having no luck. Even sent them our receipt that we managed to get from the BP. Disgusting service and behaviour. So unprofessional and dodgy.

I had an awful experience as a customer. I was trying to travel with my parents, who are adults and unfortunately the weather conditions were not good so I decided to cancel the booking. The company wanted to avoid giving any solution, and the only answer was that they were in summer and had high passenger demand. The least they could have offered is to be able to use the same booking for the future or some discount. From the consumer's point of view, it's an awful experience, mainly because we called them by phone to explain and even, so they needed more flexibility. I do not recommend this car rental service.

DO NOT USE THESE GUYS - we rented a car over the summer break and had a horrible experience. We booked a car online, which was on special. We had not received a confirmation email so had to call them the day before we were meant to pick up to make sure the booking had gone through. On the day they advised us that they didn't the car we had booked so had to change us to a smaller hatchback which ended up being more expensive. Didn't really feel like we had much choice so we agreed. The car was older and car seats we hired has seen better days.. On return we filled up the car and dropped the keys off. The next day we get an email saying we've been charged $37 as we didnt refuel the car and leave a petrol receipt inside the glove box.. This included a $20 service charge and $17 worth of petrol. I emailed back with the credit card receipt from BP (which was about 1k away from the ferry terminal) and saying it was filled up before we dropped it off. The owner respond saying because we didn't leave the receipt in the glove box the charge would stand and accuses us of lying and saying the credit card receipt doesn't prove we filled up the petrol and then proceeds to stop all communications. Use at your own risk!

We had great service from Waiheke Car Rental. Check in to get the car was a very smooth process and everything well explained. When we inadvertently left a package on the pier as we departed they managed to track us down and get it on the next ferry. Very impressed with their service.
