Truly stunning spot with incredible views over sea & land. Quite steep to the top and lots of steps but I'm not that fit and I managed it easily enough. Great exercise!! The paths up and around are well maintained and structured. Can get quite busy but everyone is friendly.

I'd recommend taking the Pilot Bay side for the ascent and main beach side for descent. You'd see locals/regulars completing it like it's nothing and then visitors like me making a lot of effort to reach the summit. Taking breaks means you can absorb changing landscapes in all their glory. A picture speaks a thousand words, totally worth the effort. Be cautious on descent, gravel can be slippery.

Climb the mountain early morning and enjoy the sunrise. Take the stairs up past the surf club. Steep climbing, but lots of opportunities to stop catch your breath and enjoy the views. Once up there 30 to 45 minutes serval viewing areas for photos. Take a different pathway down. Go to the left, this track has a few steep parts so good shoes required or walking poles, exits at Pilot Bay on the harbour side.

Great spot to enjoy Pilot Bay and Mount Maunganui area.The Lookout is accessible and not to far walking from the parking lot.Came here during sunset and really enjoy our walk. It was during winter so we didn’t go down to the beach unfortunately.You can come down to the beach and see Tangaroa statue. We might be back during summer

Brilliant views, quite a steep climb and a pretty busy track. It took about 2 hours up and down with my 6 year old grand daughter. Not too hot yesterday which made it pleasant. Council are finishing an attractive star dial on the summit.

Nice walk, not too strenuous walking around. My son climbed to the summit and said the view was spectacular, and from the pics he took I had to agree.

This is the most beautiful place i have been in New Zealand so far! An amazing scenery and very Nice hike! The view at the top is wonderful. If you Are in Taurunga you should definetly take the trip :)

Good hike / walk to the top. Couple different trail options you can take. Total gain is around 750-800ft, took us about 25m to the top going a pretty good pace. You get incredible views very quickly. Would recommend if looking to do a hike in the area.

Almost gave it a 4-star as the main trail was very steep with mediocre views. But the view at the top is worth it. On my descent I took the back route which was longer but a more gradual incline and beautiful views - the better option in my option.It’s around 20-30 mins to walk the fastest (steepest) trail, 30-40 using the back trail. You can also walk the circumference which is longer again and almost completely flat
