Easy to use website and great customer service and support. The motorhome was ideal for our family of four and we couldn’t have had a better trip. We had a minor hiccup a short way into our trip which was resolved in a couple of hours. We appreciated the quick response of customer care and the follow up over the next couple of days. We would definitely use again.

Our second time travelling in a Wilderness Motorhome, and we wouldn't hesitate to rent again through Wilderness. Picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel before and after our trip, and gave us good guidance on the setup before we left on our way. We spent 2 weeks poking around the North Island, and the motorhome and the Wilderness Auckland staff were both great. Only had one issue of a small leak from a hot water cylinder hose, and the Wilderness staff arranged a service call the following day (a weekend) at the next town we were headed to. Fixed in no time. Now to start saving for our next trip to see the things we missed...

Highly recommended Wilderness motorhomes, we had the best experience travelling in our 'Crumpy'. We felt we could go anywhere and do anything and be 100% comfortable doing it. Staff were great and quick to respond from the first contact to dropping off the van.

We booked our motorhome from home in the UK, so it was difficult to try to work out which company to go with from the other side of the world. We eventually settled on Wilderness, and were really happy with our choice. Booking on line was easy, and the website let us sort out most of the routine but important details like driver details and pick up times easily. They phoned us a few days before the hire began to check that everything was still ok and that we had no last minute questions. The motorhome we hired was almost new and had been excellently prepared for us. The reception when we collected it was really friendly and helpful, with some really good advice. We had a minor problem with the toilet of the motorhome whilst we were touring, so we phoned the Wilderness on-road helpline. Not only did they source a replacement part within a few hours, but they also arranged for someone to drive it out to us the same day (even though we were several hours drive away), so that our tour could continue uninterrupted. Excellent customer service! The drop off process at the end of our hire was equally as smooth. Wilderness may not be the cheapest option, but if you are looking for a great experience then I have no hesitation in recommending them.

2 RVs, 2 broken down, holiday ruined.Long story short:The first RV broke down and left to deal with AA myself, stranded for a night and had to drive the RV in limp mode back to the Christchurch base.Then, the replacement RV broke down at Picton. Missed the ferry and had to fly back to Auckland the next day. The holiday turned out stressful and had to be cut short.The maintenance of their RV is questionable. Although we have a refund from them, but their roadside support is slow and minimal, leaving us stranded and wasted multiple days.The long story:Rented 54 days from a holiday in Jan and Feb 2023. Everything went okay initially, apart from the drain smell kept coming up when driving. But after 2 weeks, the RV decided to refuse to start.I called the on-road team for assistance, but I was told to call AA myself and pay the mechanic call-out charge upfront because I don’t have the VIP insurance. I found it strange, but I just wanted to get it going and continue with my holiday.After calling AA, they told me the RV needs towing in the morning. We were stranded with the broken down RV for a night.In the morning after many phone calls and long waits, they cancelled the tow and got a mechanic out to start the RV up. After it started up, they asked us to drive the RV to their Christchurch base but to keep the engine running and don’t turn it off, otherwise, it won’t start up again. We drove 1.5 hours from Cheviot to Christchurch with the worry of breaking down halfway.Waited 2 hours at their base, and they offered a replacement RV with an older but bigger model, we had no choice but to accept the offer and continue with our holiday the next day.In February, we were waiting to get on a ferry in Picton. Didn’t have a problem until 2 hours before the last call for the ferry. This time is the gearbox.The dashboard shows ‘gear unavailable’ and could not put that in gear. I called the on-road team but, was told to call AA and deal with them myself again. The mechanic arrived after 30mins and nothing he could do on the spot because of the faulty gearbox.We missed the ferry that night and were stranded again. The next available ferry to the north island is in 2 weeks' time. The next morning, after many phone calls and long waits with Wilderness, they offered us to fly back to Auckland and pick up another replacement RV from there, which made no sense to our holiday plan, so we decided to cancel the remaining booking and fly back to Auckland.After negotiations, they refunded the remaining bookings, the return ferry ticket and the taxi to the motel.Although they’ve refunded us, but we are still out of pocket for the plane tickets and hotel in Auckland for the nights until the return flight. Not to mention the day off we took from work, we could have continue with our holiday if not their poorly maintained RV.Overall, I’m truly disappointed with Wilderness. They cost more than average but their RV and service don't match the price at all. Judging by the RVs we have, their RV maintenance is questionable. Their roadside support is slow and minimal, and the On Road team staff couldn’t make decisions. Also, passing messages between AA and Wilderness during the breakdown is nothing but frustration.Go elsewhere or hope your RV doesn’t break down if hiring from them.

We decided to go ahead and book with wilderness after looking around for a motorhome for our New Zealand trip, we had gone back and forth a bit because it did seem a little more expensive. We are so glad we did! The people working at both locations (Auckland/Christchurch) are amazing, super friendly, helpful and are just really excited for you to have the best time ever. We had a little mix up getting picked up from the airport by the shuttle but the staff fixed the issue and we were really happy with the outcome. We got a crack in the windscreen and had to call their roadside assistance, they walked us through it and worked it out. Definitely recommend getting insurance through Wilderness or a third party insurer. It’s a long way to travel around the world and so we were super excited but nervous too that every I would work out, and now so thankful for such an incredible experience. Thanks Wilderness for being part of our dream trip.

The best way to get around New Zeland in a home away from home!!!!Easy, confy and cousy way to travel this beautiful country.

We rented a two person motor home from their Christchurch branch for 17 days . We thoroughly loved the experience of exploring the South Island and freedom of camping at various camp grounds during that period. I don’t think we would have experienced that any other way . Overall experience dealing with Wilderness Motorhome been very positive, there were few minor glitches with our vehicle which were handled by the staff to our satisfaction. All employees are great but we had very good experience dealing with Josie , these folks are very professional and take customer care very seriously as per my personal experience.
