Somerfield House

My mother has now been in four Rest Home’s including this one. This is the NO 1 Rest Home if you want a homely place with excellent staff.& management. You could not find any better than this. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I have real concerns about the care at this rest home.The manager uses all means to avoid responsibility and accountability. I found she has a very dismissive and defensive manner.I witnessed a high percentage of caregivers who were untrained, lazy, absent, disinterested and lacked the skills/knowledge one would reasonably expect in this type of facility. I found after hours caregivers were very thin on the ground, very hard to find on multiple occasions, often found in staff rest areas, resting in the empty lounge on their phones or eating/on their phones at the reception desk.I spent many hours caring for my sick father due to the concerns I had with the level of care and disturbing things I had witnessed until he could be relocated. (He has now left the facility).A formal complaint is underway.NB - my concerns do not relate to the RN's who I found were professional and lovely to deal with but they are so let down by the dismissive manager and a number of the caregiving staff.I write this review as a genuine concern about the care given at Somerfield and hope it will prompt a review of the procedures and staff training at this facility without further dismissive reactions from the manager.
