Bushy Park Sanctuary
Beautiful sanctuary with amazing bird species, pest free. You can aso visit the historical building in the middle. Personally O liked more the sanctuary at lake Rotokare, because they have kiwi birds and you can do night trips there with freedom camping.

We stayed one night and was a unique experience, felt like staying at Downton Abbey in 1920, I totally recommend it for a night. Staff was extremely nice and friendly and the food was delicious, felt like staying in a home. Wifi works on the common area but not in the bedrooms. It has shared bathrooms, we were the only guests that night so we didn’t mind. Not the typical hotel but super happy we stayed there, it was an extremely lovely experience. The walks on the sanctuary are short and you can see lots of local birds, perfect for kids.

Fantastic park with several short walks you can easily combine to trek through the whole park. Trails were well graded, I’d say mostly flat but few spots with stairs. Favorite part was being serenaded by all the birds during our walk!Had cream tea at the homestead, great deal at $12pp, and then spent an hour walking the four tracks near the house.Nice facilities and small museum as well.

Just brilliant. The birds performed and showed us how well happy and so well fed from their natural enrolment they were. The Bush was just awesome even though we saw it in the middle of winter. Tracks pretty easy to negotiate and the museum rooms, fascinating. All in all, give yourself a few hours to enjoy this wonderful feature nestled on the outskirts of Whanganui

Exquisite sanctuary with interesting visitor centre and historic villa to dine or have tea at. The birds are so social and the trails are pristine. Worth a stop for sure and go to check out the old rata tree.Saw many robins and saddlebacks. Plenty of plants to identify with my book too.

A wonderful experience tucked away from town. This bird sanctuary does a fantastic job of showcasing local bird life in a predator free environment. Extensive work has been done to insure that the animals are left undisturbed, and that the history of the area is preserved. There is a visitor center, as well as a Cafe where you can have tea and scones while you sit inside the old manor. The manor has a wheelchair accessible lift, however the grounds are a nature walk and would be challenging to do.

Loved this place. Lovely walks on the tracks to see native protected birds and it was not crowded at all. Got to see Tui and other birds. But more than seeing them listening to them was a pleasure. Beautiful place and I will go on back and stay there someday as there's a beautiful heritage place that has 5 rooms.Must see if you are near Whanganui

Love Bushy Park!!About 15-20 minute drive from Whanganui towards New Plymouth (take care once you turn off the main road) lots of tracks to choose from. Could spend all day here! Beautiful native birds and trees to spot. Peaceful. History. Well established buildings well maintained. Toilets were clean. A few tracks were closed. Worth the drive and time!
