Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari | Sanctuary Mountain is the largest mainland fenced project in New Zealand. Surrounded by a 47 kilometre pest-proof fence. The restoration of this conservation project is remarkable and brings with it numerous native to New Zealand species. Set in the heart of the Waikato this is a must-do ecotourism experience.

A slightly challenging walk around beautiful bush. Lots of bird life to keep you looking around. Make sure you go up the tower to see the local kaka's

Our guide Graham was exceptional, he had tons of knowledge and had a great disposition. The Sanctuary is beautiful, lots of trees and birds and very peaceful.

One of the most gorgous places in nature ever !! Plenty of walking tracks -short and long. Without noticing we spent 2 hours there.

Fantastic and helpful staff.It was raining when I went ..so truly a rainforest experience! $27 for an adult. Lots of birdsong and amazing native forest!

Really impressive walk through the bush. Liz, our volunteer tour guide was very knowledgeable.It was a bit like jurassic park with the fence around the perimeter. The Flora and Fauna was just amazing. To sit and listen to all the, strange to me bird song was amazing. Highly recommend taking the accompanied tour. An excellent experience.

Great walks, we had Kākā walk right up to us in the clearing and say hello. Under the canopy it is sheltered and cool even in the middle of the day over summer. We took our 9mth old in the front pack and it was really well suited for the short walks with so many wildlife.

Exceptional forest to walk around and see birds. Bird watching is always an exercise in patience but if you're patient and lucky, you've better chance than anywhere else to spot nice birds
