Even as busy as this cafe was they found us a table and delivered delicious food quickly. Best vege bowl I’ve tasted in awhile.

This is one of the best cafes I have visited , food was brilliant, large servings and all cooked to perfection, coffee great and staff excellent.Place was pumping on a Sunday morning but all food came out at the same time as did the coffees .Had to pop back for a sweet treat a few hours later.Highly recommend.

I'd give them zero stars if the option was available. Unfortunately I have to give them a thoroughly undeserved 1 star rating in order to give a review.Where to start:1. From the moment we arrived our waiter had an attitude problem.2. The food took an an hour and 15 minutes to arrive. We were not informed of any sort of long wait time prior to ordering, but were when we chased up with the waiter, although there was clearly something else going on as everyone around us who had arrived after us were served before us.3. When the food finally arrived it was cold, and underwhelming.4. My partners vegan falafel and tofu scramble consisted of a bag of salad and one piece of tofu, with buttered bread on the side (brilliant for a vegan).I wish I could say the highlight of the experience was finally being able to leave, but even this was a disaster.The owner/manager taking payments had an attitude, absolutely no apology was offered for the countless mistakes, and to make matters worse we were overcharged for numerous items we did not order. When we spotted the mistake, again all we got back was attitude and no apology.To add insult to injury, we were then charged a 15% surcharge as it was a public holiday. Absolutely no mention was made of this when we arrived, nor was it stated in the menu.Avoid this place like the plague.

Was down at the Mount for the weekend and we wanted some brunch. Saw a cafe in the corner n thought we'd give it a try. It was quite busy, but we managed to get a table big enough to sit 8 of us. I don't know if it was because they were busy we didn't get asked if we were ready to order, so we went up to the counter and ordered.. Only to be asked like 15-20mins later are you ready to order, a bit too late bro, ordered and paid. With the prices we paid our expectations were pretty high, when the food came out it looked wow but the taste was average, more like it wasn't the greatest. Not worth the money & service wasn't the greatest. If I was to come back down to the Mount I wouldn't come back here.

Service is lethargic or non existant except for girl taking orders at the counter. Coffee good. Meal just OK as it was only vaguely warm. Yes, the beetroot should be cold but the rest should be hot. It was lunchtime on a Tuesday & not particularly busy. Sorry guys but could do better"."

We went when it was super busy and were pleasantly surprised by the service and food considering! The French toast was very nice. The brisket was a little dry, but the flavours of the whole meal were yum as and the sauce made up for the dryness. The coffees were great too! Would come back.

So delighted that The General Cafe has now taken over Maude at The Lakes. Having been to Maude numerous times, we were looking forward to going back to check out the now The General At The Lakes" for lunch yesterday. WOW!!!! The service was amazing. The new management has done an incredible job finding and training a friendly and attentive team that seemed to be completely in sync with each other and the diners. Then there was the food. We all agreed it far exceeded our expectations. As for me

Really delicious food - French toast! But the service was not the greatest - though understandable given that it was on Matariki, I wouldn't have been happy to be at work on a public holiday too!I think overall, considering that the front window displayed how many awards the cafe got, disappointing would be the best word. It was good, but not amazing.
