The swingbridge trail is a must. Massive Rimu trees with all sorts of picture spots. As a bonus, it's a kiwi guardian adventure, If you can find the post. Rivendell its self was pretty boring, so hike the trails.

FYI for any fellow dog owners: dogs are currently not allowed as there has been a 1080 drop in the area. They will be allowed back once they remove the big “no dogs sign”

The park itself is a great destination for a family day outside. Just don't expect much from the Rivendell movie set. It's nothing like what you see in the movie.

So many walks, camping and wonderful picnic places. The park is well maintained, clean and cared for. Huge native trees, quiet space, bird song, peace. The rivers are clean, with deep cool pools for a refreshing dip, even when the river is low.

Beautiful spot for the whole family, dogs included. Lots of easy bush walks, swimming holes, a campground and history. The bush is full of ancient native trees. Very picturesque.
