Cumberland Motel

When my daughter & I stayed there JEAN and her colleagues were amazing. Jean's hospitality was superb. The price was awesome for the 4 days that we stayed there. The shared facilities were nice and clean, you could have a meal in the dining area with other guests that were staying there, or even have good conversations with them and Jean herself. I would definitely stay there again, if Jean is the one still hosting the place next time we go. Just to let yous know we stayed in the shared part of the motel not the apartment side, hence the reason why I said shared facilities. For my daughter & I we chose to stay here instead of a hostel for when we went down it was during orientation time for the uni. This is better than a hostel cause you get your own room with a locked door. Once again thank you so much Jean for the wonderful person you are, keep up the good work ☺️

Good location. Pets allowed. However the place on entry was not cleaned properly. Bedding had stains. We bought our own vacuum to keep onto of pet fur However doing a once over with it pulled up an extreme amount of dirt. If your in a pinch stay here if not definitely dont! We left the place cleaner then we entered it then to get a phone call to pay an extra cleaning fee onto pf the already charged cleaning fee is a bit of a joke in my opinion.

Upon arrival, noticed that all 4 beds had rubbish still under them, underlay and duvet weren't only stained but also very dirty. Could tell they had not been washed nor changed in a while. Very unsanitary. Would highly not recommend.

Absolutely appalling service.We booked for 3-nights and at the time of booking let them know we would be there around 7.30pm. On the way down, while stopped at a fast-food outlet my wallet was stolen and we spent some time looking for it, reporting it stolen and cancelling cards.Made a courtesy call to the motel to let them know we would be there at 8.30pm (note their check-in is up to 9pm which they confirmed). They said they had decided to close reception early and they cancelled our booking! School holidays and all other motels booked out!Girl on reception said her supervisor wouldn't stay open any longer and there nothing she could do and gave a name of a different motel to call. She would not put me through to her supervisor, said she would speak to them and phone me back and then never phoned back and wouldn't even answer the phone when I tried to call back to get the name of the other motel.We drove into Dunedin at 8.30pm with no where to go. Thank goodness for Nicola from The Commodore who came to our rescue and managed to house us despite being nearly booked up. So grateful.Honestly still can't believe Cumberland did this. They shouldn't be in business as moteliers.

Stayed here for 2 nights, pillows super thin no spare pillows, oven sitting in a box in middle of the kitchen waiting to be put in, curtains didn't fit windows smelled very musty and unfortunately didn't realize we were in a student area so lots of loud music yelling and bottles being smashed etc would not recommend

I am almost certain a student flat would have been cleaner then this motel. I booked a twin room with shared bathroom and the photos shown did not match the dark, wooden outdated room I stayed in. Not only that but I a female was not only sharing a bathroom I was also sharing an entire living/kitchen area with a male I have never met.The bedding was disgusting and covered in brown smears and food/oil stains. It smelt old and musty and was very clearly not washed for who knows how long and defiantly not while I was there.There was ONE hand towel in the bathroom that was SHARED and not changed at all throughout the stay. I must add that I stayed during level 2..... sure way to spread germs....The bath towels were cheap and rubbish and also stunk like old b.o and musty clothes.The bins were not emptied at all in either the bedrooms, bathroom or kitchen for my entire stay.There were finger prints all over the walls that were very easily removed (I wiped a patch off)The curtains didn’t even fit the windows so they had big gaps so not only was I getting the noise of a Main Street I also got the light off the Main Street.The parking was incredibly tight and as a result my car was damaged trying to get out.When I talked to the people about these problems I was offered a $5 discount next time I stay! There will not be a next time even with that amazing offer

Please don't stay there.There was no other accommodation available with pets in Dunedin . So I grabbed it. Got there very late. The room smelt bad the curtains were to short to close over the windows and a oven sitting in the middle of the kitchen waiting to be fitted . I spoke to the manager in the morning and he could not see any problem with the room and offered a discount for the next time I stay there. I said... I would not ever come back

Very much in need of a good clean and refurbishment Would never stay here again .Maybe $5.00 a night cheaper than some but it shows .Students flats would be tidier. Spend another few dollars a night and avoid this place.

At $305 for two nights, I was so disappointed. Had the worst sleep, beds were too soft and the pillow was just a foam slab. No extra pillows provided. The teenager with me has a habit of searching couches for money, 2 x $1 coins later and a whole lot of dust and dirt he found some. I paid $15 for my non-shed dog, but the only service they did was empty the rubbish bins, which was the stuff pulled out of the couch they didn’t clean anything. Not even the dishes that I washed and drained were put away, the beds weren’t made, towels weren’t changed. Motel isn’t the right description, it’s more budget accomodation. The only good thing I have to say is the location is great. Recommend clean the cobwebs, dust everywhere, vacuum plus clean grime off ceiling, clean the shower curtain and supply real pillows plus spares please.

Used to work here. Manager definitely tried to rip off everyone within arm’s reach. The bedspread will only be cleaned every few months. Half of units have strong unpleasant musty smell in them. No pest control has been carried out in eons and I found a bed bug whilst cleaning.
