Lonely planet gave this a home a high star rating so we decided to stay here. Glad we did! Jo is an avid reader. Highly read. Knows her stuff about ALL authors and her collections are unbelievable. If you love reading or maps, please consider staying here. She's a delight.

VERY cluttered...we thought it was dirty and piles of stuff everywhere. We were told we had kitchen fascilities...but were not expecting a VERY old hot plate...or a tiny dorm room frig. They are very nice...but if I were you...I'd go look else where. Too expensive, for what you get.

We stayed three nights at Jo's B&B. She is such a lovely host. We enjoyed our breakfasts with her and also joining her local pub quiz team in the only pub/restaurant of the island. The house is very warm thanks to central heating and is so close to everything (museum, wharf, hiking trails, ferry terminal). Highly recommended!

Jo must rate as one of Stewart Island's treasures, up there with the bird-life and the forest. No matter what your passion, Jo has the book for you, and if you don't arrive with a passion, you will leave with one. She is a great conversationalist with the wealth of knowledge and stories. Her old cottage is full of character: a bit cramped, but warm, and our double bed with its homemade patchwork quilt was very comfortable (the old-fashioned sort with room for storage underneath!). Jo advised us about the best walks around Oban and took us up to see the Oban Presbyterian Church, a beautiful historic building the tiny congregation is working hard to maintain.

Jo was a thoughtful, interesting, kind and entertaining host. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and I can honestly say meeting Jo and staying with her on Stewart Island was one of the highlights of my whole trip to New Zealand. This small Bed & Breakfast is relaxingly homely with a joyous library, it’s a characterful and individualistic home with all that entails and, personally, I couldn’t have been happier there.
