It always amazes me with the extensive Kauri logging in the pioneering days that we still have the odd survivor. This is a great example of what our forests might have been like only a couple hundred years ago or earlier. This beautiful Kauri is probably a couple thousand years old, which is staggering to think about. If you have had a hard day hiking in our forests, leave some energy for the steps up to the viewing platform, as its quite steep, but totally worth it.Remember to only stay on the board walk to prevent the Kauri disease spreading.

Beautiful track to the kauri tree. Neatly kept and well maintained grounds. A must see if you are travelling via this road.

Spectacular tree and gorgeous view. Great wee stop over for a short walk, very steep for most of the way, take care if you get vertigo

Keep an eye out for the sign as we nearly missed it. The walk is up quite a few stairs but you get a nice view of the valley and get right up to the tree. Don't forget to clean and disinfect your shoes at the brushes after the first set of stairs

Secluded. Easy to miss the signpost. Shortest walk ever I have done. About 5 minutes steep walk leading to 1200 years old unusual shaped Kauri. If you are in the area, it would be worth a shortstop. You may be interested in visiting a water garden nearby.

A nice little side trip, 15mins east along the Tapu - Coroglen Rd.Steep stairs to begin with, but worth it at the end.

A great experience of seeing native New Zealand trees.Parking is limited and possibly an unsealed road as our last visit was 2017 and it could have been upgraded.Because of the extreme weather the Coromandel has been having in the last few weeks there has been many road slips including the Tapu Coroglen road and at this time, February 2023, the road is closed.Would advise doing local checks to find out if accessible prior to going.

The tree itself and the view are beautiful but we had high expectations and to be honest, they didn't live up to it. The bad road conditions made the experience even less appealing.

Parking is tight and its down a long unsealed road, but its well worth a visit. Amazing tree and a great walkway right up to it. Steep steps, but not too far to walk.

Need to drive whole 10 minutes on a rocky & dusty & narrow mountain road to get there (from highway). And the entrence was sooo easy to miss, we drive back and forth at least 3 times to find the correct parking space. But the tree itself is really huge, we made a few wishes in front of the tree, that's the only purpose drive me there, and hopefully it works.Overall, a little bit hard to get there, the tree itself was quite cool.ps, guys, leave the fence alone, don't carve anything on it!
