A perfect rest stop after a long days cycle and with a warm welcome from Esme. Comfy bed and ensuite, covered bike storage and charging stations, books to read, TV and breakfast all laid out for you in the lounge/diner.Esme also kindly drove us to the Commercial Tavern nearby where we eat dinner. Excellent hosting!

Fabulous little bnb. It's a fantastic place to spend the night at the end of the trek from Ranfurly. Host and hostess extraordinaire, very welcoming. Excellent community room for meals, well-appointed, warm and snug.

Had a fantastic stay in this unique accommodation in April. Bruce and Esme were lovely hosts and were very welcoming. It was so nice to come in to a warm stove after our time on the rail trail and our room was very cosy. Would highly recommend!

Stayed here with my Dad on our first night on the Rail Trail. I was pretty exhausted by the time we hit Lauder, and Esme took care of us as soon as we rode through the gates. She quickly showed us our cabin so we could change, then set us up with a warm cuppa and biscuit - much needed! The cabin we stayed in was basic but cosy - no ensuite, but the shared bathroom was clean and modern. The really special part of our stay here though was Esme and Bruce, and all the other riders we met here. Esme and Bruce are so lovely, and we talked at length about everything - and they laid on an amazing breakfast where we met all the other guests and shared our experiences on the trail. Our stay here really made our trip, and we met up with our new trail friends many more times over the next two days. Highly recommend staying with Esme and Bruce on your Rail Trail adventure!

From the moment of arrival Esme and Bruce were very welcoming and looked after all our needs including a wonderful continental breakfast. We stayed in the staff room of the old school building which was spotlessly clean with comfortable beds and an ensuite bathroom. Great place for small or large groups to mingle with fellow guests in a comfortable setting and with congenial hosts.

I had a great night staying at Lauder School while doing the rail trail. I was met by Bruce on arrival who showed me around and to my room for the night, the Play Hut. He warned me there had been a possum the night before so he had set a trap for it - fortunately I heard nothing in the night and slept brilliantly in the warm, cosy twin room. This room is not ensuite but the shared bathroom was modern and clean.Later in the evening I met Esmé who is just as lovely as her husband and happy to have a chat.I spent my evening in the common lounge which included a full kitchen that people were able to use to prepare their own food if not dining at the Lauder Hotel across the road.Bruce and Esmé set out breakfast (a range of cereal, toast, preserves, juice etc with dairy & gluten free options available) the night before so that you can help yourself in the morning. They arrived in the common lounge around 8-8:30 and chatted amongst the guests which was lovely. They seem to really love what they do and are eager to welcome people to Lauder. Before I set off on the next day of the cycle trail, Bruce offered to take my photo which as someone cycling solo, was much appreciated! It was a pleasure staying at Lauder School B&B and I’d highly recommend it.

Stayed here as part of a rail trail bike tour. Amazing accommodation. Nice bed after a day of biking. The common room was fun with lots of history. Easy walk to cafe and pub.
