Mercer Hotel Backpackers

We stayed here when we went to do the Tough Mudder run in the beginning of November. Christine is the most hospitable host we’ve encountered at a hostel in NZ. She was so kind to us, she even switched over our laundry when we went for dinner! The rooms were very comfortable, my partner and I had a private room (which had its own sink to brush your teeth) and our two friends shared a dorm room (which had access to a wee patio outside).Christine even took the time to mail us our Tough Mudder headbands we had left behind in our room, which we were incredibly grateful for.We give the thumbs up to this affordable, comfortable and hospitable hostel! Thank you so much Christine for everything :)

The backpackers itself is a nice place.Tidy and quiet with everything you need.The manager on the other hand is a vile, nasty person.We caught her on several occations not only in our room but going through our property.She helped herself to anything in the fridge and cupboards and would then lie to our faces and blame somebody else.If she gets her way she wont have a problem, however if you disagree with her about anything or use the word no and she will kick you out with no reason other than you challenged her.Five families while i was there!No reason, just they disagreed with God.Would never go back as long as she,s at the helm.Two previous guests along with myself have placed it in the hands of the police now for the theft of property and other issues that i cant go into.I only hope the owners take notice and replace her before she completely ruins what would be a nice place to be.Cristine may be better at running a womans prison or perhaps a P.D warden.

Fantastic accommodation. Christine is super friendly and helpful. Our group booked the whole place, and everyone had a great time. Hope to stay again next time we are in Mercer.

Great Hostel to stay! Very helpful, picked me up in Mercer and also dropped me off next day to continue the TA track. Nice Hostel with comfortable beds and view on the small airport. :)

Great host, very accommodating. Love the vibe down at Mercer it’s very peaceful down there. Rooms and kitchen and bathrooms very clean. I would definitely stay again.

Brilliant place to stay. Warm, friendly and welcoming staff that would do anything for you. The manager Chrissy was amazing and very helpful with everything that i needed. Great experience and would stay again.

Am staying at least four nights a month. The manager Christine is welcoming and helpful. The place is always clean and tidy. Would strongly recommend this place to anyone who want's to spend a night or two. Cheers
