It's worth a visit. Make sure you are wearing good footwear as the path can be tricky to traverse, especially in wet conditions.

Eh, it was cool. A couple of small caves a 20 minute walk away from the summit. Something to do while waiting for the return boat.

So there is only one cave and it is difficult to walk through it. It is not a well prepared stalactite cave with stairs, handrails etc, better wear some good shoes (not sandals, not chucks etc). You have to walk up and down on stones into the dark (bring a light, cellphone flashlight works quite good). It can be narrow down there too, but in my eyes its worth it to go there!

Very cool experience. Make sure to bring a torch and to watch your head towards the end of the cave. Be careful as the paths and walls of the cave are quite sharp. Sturdy shoes is a must!

Definitely worth taking the time to visit these lava tubes. Consists of 2 caves that run into each other with a short gap between them.Its a bit dark but there is some light, just take your time and use the light on your phone/torch if you have to.First cave gets a bit low for a few metres so watch your head.We managed this with 11 and 7 year olds.

Excellent - I’d recommend going from the bottom to the top. Walk last the entrance and stay on the track until you get to the end of the path sign. Enter the tunnel on the left side and walk to the top. Much easier!!

Honestly one of the simplest yet coolest experiences of my life; now, I haven't been to the Waitomo caves down south yet, but crouching into and climbing up out of these short pitch black lava caves was so unique. Some literally you need to be a bit fit to get in; our 10 yr old niece could but my fiance's mother wouldn't be able to. The other main one however our entire family did, including mum, bc it's just walking through with plenty of headroom. Just make sure you don't lose track of time so that you can get off the island before the last ferry leaves!

I thought i would be able to do back flips in the lava but i didn't get to see any actual lava. Bit of a scam but i spun some little girls jaw so that was sick.

Pretty rad island with lots of history and cool hike! Looks like it had a area to BBQ, if you so choose! The only thing I would add is better signs, like with where you are?" maps
