If I could give negative stars I would.I picked up a car at Palmerston North airport and drove to Levin for a business meeting, a 1 hour drive. It was clear there was a mechanical fault with the steering and I felt unsafe driving. I contacted them from Levin. I spent 2 hours on the phone with various people. They told me to taxi back to Palmerston North but wouldn't pay the taxi fare etc, etc. The manager of Palmerston North then said there was nothing wrong with the car (I guess they have psychic powers) and that I must drive it back to Palmerston North. I did so very, very slowly with the steering still a big problem. The replacement car I picked up was filthy inside and out. I was charged $627 for the 2 day hire.2 weeks later they have charged my credit card $570 for the second car I hired. I have now spent several hours again trying to get this charge reversed.This company are scammers and have dangerous cars. Do not use them ever!!

HiI would like to take this opportunity to say I had never received such good service from any rental company as I did from europcar. I have travelled to many countries around the world and when I landed in Queenstown I tried to rent a vehicle from other rental companies at Queenstown Airport and had no success. When I approached Europcar Jack and Dracos were so friendly and helpful, they made a great effort in finding me a vehicle. If this the continuous service Europcar provides, I will always use your company when renting a vehicle. Thank you Jack and Dracos. You get 10/10 for great service.

Scam car hire. They charged my credit card NZD 56,000+ erroneously and refuse to reverse the charge nor respond further. When we collected the car we confirmed at the europcar counter the return time was 10am with a grace period of 29mins. As we collected at 9:45am and returned at 10:19am, europcar now insists that we pay $560 for an additional day's hire for being 5 mins late". this was not what we were told/confirmed at the time of collection. I picked up a car in Auckland airport on 25th May. I was due to return this car to Wellington Airport after a five day road trip. Unfortunately, there had been weather warnings issued for the Rotorua area making my intended drive from Rotorua to Wellington through the National Park too dangerous for me to want to undertake. I made the sensible decision to instead fly from Rotorua to Wellington and instead return my car to the Rotorua Europcar terminal. As the weather warnings were issued at around 8pm, I endeavoured to call the Rotorua Europcar branch to ask if this was possible. At this time they were closed. I instead spoke to someone at customer services with Europcar and also had my travel agent, the app Hopper to ask as well. At no point was I informed about the potential drop off fee of $587.89 NZ dollars. If I had known about this I would have perhaps not opted for this and driven back to Auckland instead. This fee is ridiculous. It is more than I paid for the rental car itself and more than I’ve paid for half of my trip in New Zealand. I wasn’t informed what the fee was for, or what it would contribute to, but only I could not leave the car. I was told that main customer service would not know that this fee would occur meaning that this mistake is a product of your company and it’semployees and branches being ineffective at communicating. The team member at Rotorua stated “No the main customer service wouldn’t have known about this fee” - why not? Did you just make it up?!I feel conned out of $587 dollars and very upset by this. All I wanted to do was make a safe decision to minimise my risk of damaging the rental car and my health in adverse weather conditions and have ended up with what feels like a fine.I am a well travelled and I have rented many cars through other providers for both business and pleasure. Never at any point have I received a fee such as this for changing plans across all the different countries that I have travelled. I have never rented with Europcar and in all honesty, I likely will never again. Avoid at all costs. Avis are much better.

Christchurch Airport - Take photos when you pick up and drop off. Silver lining, this lesson only cost me $800. Tried to engage in conversation, only got back a rude email from some Australian with copies of the contract and a statement saying it wasn't like that when I picked it up. The rates were reasonable, BUT, Take photos when you pick up and drop off. Europcar don't care what you have to say.

Would like to score Europcar '0' stars, but not possible, Shocking customer advice and service. Was assured something on the phone, however, wanted to be sure so I emailed Europcar to confirm. Received a standard reply that didn't answer my concern. Now four emails later and I'm still receiving a computer-generated reply that has not resolved the issue. Impossible to get to speak to someone about this. Stay away from them.

If I could give a minus star review it would be done. Do not rent a motor vehicle from this company. It is the worst experience I have ever had. Booked a van online in August 2022 and paid for van. Planned one way trip Auckland to Rotorua. They then cancelled my booking 2 weeks out from Xmas with no resolution to be offered and then expect a week to be refunded.Check the google reviews before you book. Disgusting.

Do not book with Europcar if you are planning to travel Inter-island. Made a booking from Auckland to Christchurch and was provided a guaranteed price of around $800 NZD. They split the trip into 2 so you will receive 2 seperate cars for each island however website advises you will not be charged extra for this , and you will be only be charged the initial quoted price. Before I even stepped foot in New Zealand there was already a mountain of things that had gone wrong. After I made the booking I rang up to advise what day I’d be dropping off the first car and picking up the second after catching the ferry. I was then sent an email with wrong drop off/pick up dates (they had somehow changed the entire booking for 1 day instead of 14 days) and an updated quote of $6000 - yes SIX THOUSAND. I quickly rang back to advise of this error. After this phone call I received and email with correct details but an updated quote which was around $1500 for each island hire- which is 4X times the amount of my initial quote for the entire trip!! When I called to advise Europcar of this they advised that all would be fine when I arrived in Auckland and that I would just need to provide the email with the initial provided quote of $800 and it would be honoured. It wasn’t. I was told I would need to figure it out on my own with the Wellington location and that there was nothing they could do for me. Honestly save yourself the stress and avoid this company at all costs

I rented a car in Auckland for a month late last year. All seemed fine, I had booked it via a third party website. Early January, Europcar deduced $220 from my credit card. On querying the charge, they raised a case and reversed it 10 days later. A day after that, they charge my credit card $2029, the full original amount. I have had many calls, frustrations, assurances via email that the money has been paid, requests for my bank statements... but no money back. Checking Tribunal process next, but after seeing other reviews of them I can only warn to stay away from them.

Booked a Swift Sport with manual trans months in advance. On the day of pickup, we waited 20 minutes to be given an automatic 1.0L 3 cylinder shitbox without being told before or at the point of handover. The price was not changed to reflect the inferior vehicle provided.I will update this review if we are compensated for this ripoff.
