Fish n Chips and Chinese takeaways on Wilson Road, Waihi. They have some specials to choose from at the bottom of the menu. Ordered and waited for about 10 mins. You can also ring ahead to order. Chips, nuggets and hot dogs were lovely. The Tarakihi in the special combos were ok. Reasonable portions

Great crumbed snapper, tasted fresh as could be. Chips were nice but the wedges were great and crispy.Good serving size, the mussel fritter seemed like the mussels had been blended or minced, would have preferred them to have bigger bits.Crab sticks were great and so was the mussels.

I’ve held off writing a review of Wilson Road Fish Shop for over seven years as I was always hopeful that things would improve, but today my optimism finally died.My wife’s family have been frequenting this place for many years; the shop has a pretty captive audience as it’s the most convenient takeaway shop for a lot of people in Waihi Beach. I generally try to avoid it and go elsewhere - usually a drive to Waihi but today the timings didn’t work out. Most places which offer a range of takeaway options do at least some things well, but for Friday night takeaways these guys consistently fail to impress across the board. They offer the usual fish and chip options (obviously), burgers, and a few Chinese options. The food is average on a good day but typically underwhelming. “Why did I pay good money for this dross?” I asked myself tonight as I choked down a soggy and insipid piece of some battered fish which was billed and charged as “snapper.”This people who own the place must make money doing it; they remain in business but clearly have no love of food nor any interest in customer service. The shop itself is an absolute dump. I have given them an extra star for service because they provide employment to some young people in the village. Very public spirited but I suppose it also keeps the wages low.If Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares starts up in NZ I feel this place would make an ideal venue for the pilot episode.

Overpriced, $2 for crab stick with flour on it (under mixed batter?). $6 piece of “Terakihi”The worst fish I’ve ever eaten, frozen or old...? Thick oily batter. Wouldn’t sell us 1/2 scoop of chips, had to buy whole scoop so went without. It’s such a shame the one and only fish & chip shop in town is rubbish...

Seating outside on sturdy seats able to hold my weight, with cheap combos such as 3 fish, 3 potato fritters and a scoop of chips for $17.They still use newspaper to wrap up the chips and will gladly take clean newspapers.Potato fritters were huge, fish were very fresh.Handy to the gift shops and the beach, well worth the visit.

We have been coming to this place for 20 years and always look forward to it. Unfortunately, it has gone down hill in the last few months. Yes, prices have risen and that’s to be expected in this economic climate, but last nights offering fell well short of their usual standards. Mangey looking chips and very few of them. Cost was $22. Will be trying other shops in the area next time.

Quite up there on price but it's way out at the beach, product quality acceptable, staff smiles would be a plus, would be interested to know what oil was used in the deep fryers

Burgers were yum. Chicken burger has real chicken not processed which is a bonus and cheese burgers are tasty too. Friendly service with big smiles.
