Evergreen Escape

This has to be the most unique hostel I've stayed in yet. Lovely beach theme, with a focus on the beautiful birds of this beautiful country. I encountered a wild Week while hanging my clothes to dry!! It's only a few hundred meters to the ocean, which you will likely be the only one there. In my opinion, the dining room and kitchen are the best parts of this place. It has such a quaint and home-like feeling to it. We connected with all the other guests via a nice dinner, which has an incredible view of the sunset. Also, the proprietor is incredibly kind and quite funny. Enjoyed some quality banter with him. Over all, I am looking forward to returning to this hostel. Hopefully it will be soon :)

After some car trouble we arrived in Hokitika very last minute, and found a room here. The place was really lovely, they have really thought of everything from recycling to fresh eggs, kitchen basics, board games and free bikes to use around town as it is about a 20 minute walk along the coastal road. For a small hostel it didn’t feel crowded when all of the rooms were taken, and the view of the sea from the communal area is beautiful. Beds were comfy and the rooms (we stayed two nights, one in a twin bunkbed room and another in a queen room) had plenty of space. The hosts were so lovely and helped us out when we had to hang around a bit longer. Would definitely recommend and stay again!

Totally awesome stay, Neil and Kerry are so helpful, we ended up staying an extra night, as I was unwell, Kerry was amazing and basically sorted out our ongoing accommodation for us.When we were back in the UK, Neil sent me some of Kerry's paintings and greenstone.The best of hosts, thanks so much.Although we were there in 2018, I still have very fond memories of Hokitika and I will definitely stay here again.

Big fully equipment kitchen. Great view to the sea. You get free of 200 MB. The rooms are rather small. It's close to the highway thus it's often loud....

We were looking for last-minute accommodation for our family of 4 over the busy holiday season and Kerry went out of her way to accommodate us. A lovely spot with a very tranquil, homely atmosphere. Decorated with beautiful artwork and straight over the road from the Wild west coast beach.Clean, friendly and relaxed. Would definitely recommend.

I spent few days at this place and all I can say is, this guesthouse was my favourite during my 3 weeks in New Zealand in 2013. The owners were just lovely and very kind, and very helpful when I needed some advices about places to visit. I extended my stay for 2 extra nights because the place was so relaxing. The beach is not far in front of the hotel, you can maybe find some greenstones if you intend to visit Hokitika. Kitchen is fully furnished, and beds were very comfy at that time! More of that, Kerry is very talented artist and decorated this place nicely. I bought some cards of animals of NZ painted by her and they fit nicely in some frames at home. Nice souvenir! I fully recommend this place and hope to come back again one day!

We loved our stay! Outdoor baths in the rain, cosy fire in the nice kitchen and lounge - a lovely sea view space to hang out in. Nice room. We loved Neil the owner, he was super friendly and have us great tips on local stuff to explore, which we followed and enjoyed! Would stay again!

What a wonderful find this has been! A little way out of town, this bird themed spot is just so idyllic.. Super friendly hosts who really care about their guests and keep the place spotless. It's got a really homely feel with a log burner and a great lounge to while away the evening in. With model pukekos everywhere, freshly made bread available and free herbs, what's not to like??

Neil was extremely friendly and accommodating host. The place is interesting with a theme around birds with each room named after a bird. They have washer and dryers here and a great view of the beach. There's not a ton of rooms here and the one I stayed in was a bit small - twin bunk room.
