We stopped for a drink and evening meal here, the device was great with very friendly helpful staff and the Blue Cod meal was one of the best I have ever had. This is a small hotel in an out of the way location but it is well worth taking time to visit it.

Loved it. Far away from anywhere, quiet, great hosts, great meal and a wonderful older building in Art Deco style...

Thank you!!! We got to attend the dinner because they took the trouble to pick us up!! The driver was their family friend, Jo, who happen to be a rally car driver and a fly fisherwomen! To talk about attendance in style!! We were on our 2nd day of cycling - a bit shaken after the cliff hanger 40km Level 3 Lake Dunstance experience the day before, followed by a contrasting Otago rail trail 45km Level 1 ride next day to Lauder on 13/4/23.My tight stomach soon turned normal after being driven through the classic historic Opir stone bridge, passing through some neat stone buildings like the post office and general store …How about ending the night with something special from the south? The Blue Cod simply melted in my mouth! I later learnt that only lucky people from the South Island got to eat them!! The Central Otago Lamb was so juicy and tender!! Certainly my best meal experience for the whole trip!! Thank you! You certainly made my day! I can’t thank you enough!!

Blacks Hotel is well set up for charging e bikes but they are not under cover. Some of the bedrooms are surprisingly rustic. At least one bedroom has only a curtain separating the bedroom and bathroom. This hotel is expensive for what it provides.

This spot is a piece of history located in paradise. I think it's well worth a visit to the tiny town of Ophir if you're in Central Otago to see the bridge and visit Blacks Hotel. The food looked great. The bar was well stocked with quality brands and the bar lady Steph was good craic!

We stayed at Omakau Commercial Hotel and only found out 1 day ahead that they had no room for dinner. Saskia not only said we could eat at Blacks but also picked us up, and drove us back via the old town. The food was fab, the ambience was great and both our group and the table beside us liked playing trivia quiz ( as the restaurant has loads of games). Will definitely return (and stay this time). Many thanks!
