Muriwai Gannet Colony Lookout

Beautiful walk from beach/campsite to this lookout. Easy to get to. It was quite cool to see so many birds all together in this one spot.

Stunning Stunning Views! Could spend hours just enjoying the view and the Gannet chicks were so cute to see.

Spent a lovely evening watching the gannets come back to land and feed their young. Beautiful track and wooden lookout so you can get very close to the birds now

Amazing views of the colony. We were there during mating season so we got to see the babies and parents swooping around to go get food. It was an excellent experience! Wear sunscreen!! We lost track of time taking pictures of the birds and got a little burnt.

I recently visited the Muriwai Gannet Colony Lookout and had a fantastic experience. The lookout is located on the west coast of Auckland, providing stunning views of the ocean and surrounding countryside.But the real highlight of the lookout is the opportunity to get up close and personal with the gannets. Great beach with gannets colony and pine forest on North end. Only half hour drive from Westgate, popular for surfing and body boarding.

Very pretty. If you come during the end of November/December it’s usually breeding season.

Totally free and a gorgeous walk will reward you with views out over the ocean, across two beaches (including a lovely black sand beach on one side) and the Gannet Colony, which is well worth the walk!When we went there were a number of just hatched little birds and it was such a spectacular sight!
