SPCA Whangarei Centre

Lovely people taking care and doing their best for very many animals in a tough situation. ❤️We found a small black kitten that was clearly stray and brought it in; lady at the front desk was brilliant and I’m sure they’ll do their best to find the little guy a good home!However the SPCA call centre (?) person I spoke to when I first found the kitten and was trying to figure out what to do with it left us VERY concerned. Said they probably didn’t have capacity so the kitten would likely be neutered and released (?! Please tell me the SPCA isn’t releasing feral cats into the wild in a country with already-threatened native birds?!) and that I should take it to the vet (who refused to take a stray kitten and were very surprised by this suggestion when I called them) or keep it (my situation would not allow this) which left me feeling very uneasy about the whole thing.Thankfully the centre itself was lovely but thought I should just put this out there.

Helpful, friendly, genuine staffAdopted a puppy who had been there for several weeks. Very happy pooch, sure sign she was well treated.

Great staff that really care for the animals. They allowed us to come in on a Sunday and meet our future dog. Super informative team who were very helpful throughout the adoption process.

Difficult parking. Strong smell of urine when you walk in the door. I think they are doing a good job in a poor facility
