This place is so incredible that we are still dreaming about it, more than 5 months after our stay ;-) the Views are breathtaking, especially during Sunset, the atmosphere is so Special, above the ocean. The House itself is beautiful, cozy, well designed. Susanna, on top, is an amazing and very caring host. Best stay of our NZ travels

Beautiful well kept place, well worth the 10 minute hike up the hill. Spacious rooms, well equipped kitchen, clean sanitary facilities. Few rooms available so can never get crowded. Off the grid in the middle of nature. Be aware that electricity is limited. Does offer good and free wifi.

I'm reluctant to leave a positive review because I selfishly want this place to remain a little secret. I stayed here several years ago for what was only supposed to be one night but ended up turning into several; it was definitely a highlight of our road trip. It's basically a quiet cabin overlooking the ocean. It was very clean, and the couple who were running the place could not have been friendlier or more accommodating. You have to hike up a small hill and the building is powered by a water wheel. There are few better ways to begin a South Island adventure. I still hope to return some day.

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay in this secluded lodge. Although it’s a 10 minute hike up to the accommodation (Dave & Susanne will help take up your luggage for you), it was a lovely view and a great feeling to be a bit disconnected from the world. Our room was clean & comfortable...keep in mind there are no outlets or WiFi in the bedrooms but you can charge up and access WiFi in the shared area (kitchen & living room very large and comfy). The hosts Dave and Susanne were also super kind and great to talk to. Would definitely come back!

What a lovely place. The house itself is very unique. The rooms are confortable and full of interesting books, photos and art all around. The house is in the middle of the bushes an hipnotsing view from the Tasman sea. Our hosts David and Susana made us fell very welcomed. Hopefully we are visiting this paradise again.

On our way from Franz Joseph Glacier to Abel Tasman, we decided to make a detour to the old slaughterhouse after seeing pictures of the place on the internet. We are so glad we went there, common area and bedroom were stunning, built in wood (by the owner!), with an amaizing view to the Tasman sea. The hosts were very nice and helpful, and they have such an interesting life story! The 10min climbing walk to arrive didn't bother us and David was there to take the luggages with the quad if needed. We stayed one night but we would have loved to stay more. One of the most beautiful and special places we saw, we definitely recommend it!

This is as near to being in Heaven , as one can get . Susanna is a wonderful, obliging Host .The Native Bush setting is idyllic & so peaceful , occasionally punctuated by Birdlife calls incl Native Harriers. While the Native Bush walk up to Lodge , can be a challenge due to fitness & age , the down hill can be appreciated for its natural spenderThank you Susanna ,( from a 12 year returnee")"

The best place we've stayed in NZ! Feels like you're out in the bush, but you're only 25 mins from Westport with all its amenities. Stunning views, you can spend all day out on the large deck watching the sea and looking out for dolphins. The shared living space is spacious, very comfortable and full of interesting things to look at, and the kitchen has everything you need for cooking. The bathrooms are clean and the hot water showers were amazing after a few days of camping! Our bed was very comfy, we slept really well. Susanna and David are the loveliest hosts. We originally booked for 2 nights but added a 3rd night on because we didn't want to leave. A true gem, we'll be telling everyone about this place!
