Onga Onga General Store
Dinky little township. Well set up General Store/Cafe. Extra friendly. Historic signage is quaint. Petrol pumls on the kerbside brings back fond memories. Worthwhile popping in here. A museum down the road too.

We just decided to get some fuel, there are pumps outside the shop, the owner serves you, we brought and ice cream.Outside their shop is a box of free items people leave as well as excess fruit. People just sitting outside an enjoying the day. There is also an area where you can picnic under the trees. Beautiful place.Thank you to Onga Onga General Store for your service, loved spending a little bit of time there.

When heading north to Hawkes Bay via the east coast or south from the same....consider a refreshment break here.NZ at its best the way it was. Beaut meat pies. Packed bread rolls and sandwiches like mum used to make. Indoors or outdoors in the garden.Don't bypass Onga Onga.Just 17km north of Dannevirke and a stones through South of Waipawa.Historical sites to see after lunch.

Out for country drive and stopped for coffee. Lovely hot coffee and friendly service with outdoor area. There is a selection of food available. We are locals and plan to go back on a nice day and sit outside. There is an indoor seating area as well with small shop.

Best scrambled eggs on toast with perfect parsley, ever. This is the best, no need to go anywhere else, ground black pepper and salt to complement, breakfast is sorted here.

We often pass through and get some snacks from the beautiful old General Store owned by Cushla who has truly transformed the place, and the lovely people who live in the town, naming a few like Doug and also Cushla who we've met traveling with our shih tzu girls
