Absolutely loved our stay! Beautiful area right by the Truman Track. The houses are basically part of the native 'jungle'! Be prepared for sandflies, though..We stayed with the whole family for 6 nights and didn't get bored of the Punakaiki area at all!The service was awesome, the whole family felt very welcome. The house (Ruru) we stayed in could use a bit of a renovation and more vacuum cleaning but that didn't really bother us.We definitely go back to Te Nikau Retreat when we are in the area again.

A little gem in the rain forest. Tui Lodge sleeps 2-3. No tv but has wi-fi. Great for getting away from it all. A short walk through rain forest to a beach. Take snaps of waves crashing on rocks near pancake rocks. All good for the soul.

What a beautiful place to be. Most of the apartments are hidden in a little rainforest and it’s a short walk to the Truman beach, which is beautiful little beach, perfect to watch the sunset or explore at low tide (sea stars, crabs, mussels to see)! Chris is such a wonderful soul and really wants to make sure everyone has a unforgettable stay, he will also give you great recommendations for places to visit.

Great walk through the bush to Truman beach - but the highlight was seeing some glow worms at night. The visitor stones were a nice touch too.

I stayed at this hotel for one night and it was cozy. The bed was quite comfortable and I loved how they gave plenty of extra blankets. My partner loves to sleep with lots of pillows which they only gave two. I wish they had extra pillows. We took the ones from the couches instead, which was fine. The bathroom and toilets were okay, not super modern but clean enough. They had hot plates as cooking equipment and the pots and pans were quite thin, so be careful with cooking as it can burn very easily. They provided salt, spices and other things but no oil. We couldn’t find the oil in our kitchen and we asked the receptionist who seemed very tired and annoyed as he ran to the back to get us some. The drive into the reception was very small and narrow for our large car so keep this in mind if you have a big vehicle. Even the car park at reception area was very small and took a long time to reverse out, but I don’t think they can do much about this. Just something to note. Our fridge was left open when we got there so we couldn’t use it for a few hours. That was a bit disappointing but not a big deal.I would say this hotel is good for a short stay if you are looking for something cozy and affordable.

Nestled into the bush just above a stunning beach, this hostel is cozy with a big fire and practical kitchen facilities, welcoming the a great host who showed us all the best local spots, and tranquil: our Stargazer Hut was tucked away in the quiet of the bush with moreporks calling at night, and a skylight for stargazing. Walking access to kayaking, pancake rocks, caves, beach. Only criticism: could do with a new pillow in the hut ;)

Backpackers accommodation in the West Coast scrub. Driving in you suddenly find yourself surrounded by lush jungle, with beautiful paths to the houses and nearby walks. Pebble Beach not 2 minutes away for watching the sunset.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were friendly and the beach walk was stunning. Wood fire and fully equipped kitchen made for a real cozy feeling of being home.

Stayed here either side of mountain biking the Paparoa Track. Rooms were really comfortable and living area was very relaxing. The Site Manager, Chris, went out of his way to set up our transfers to Blackball and sorted us with everything we needed, including a hose to wash our bikes down. Highly recommended!
