Criterion Hotel Bar & Eatery
Having dined here twice before I knew this would be the perfect venue to have our 100 Years North Otago District Council AA celebration. Katrina was easy to deal with, assisted with menu ideas, and her and the team delivered a top service experience with an amazing high quality cooked meal and an abundance of food for everyone. I highly recommend The Criterion to everyone whether dining with a friend, or as a group. Katrina caters for everyone and her passion for this business is definitely reflected in her service and food. Thank you for a memorable evening for all our staff and Councillors. Look forward to dining with you again soon.

Dinner at the Criterion hotel and bar.The food was excellent and a reasonable price. The service was great,no complaints. Nice setting in a good location. I recommend this place and would gladly come again. Well done.

Stopped to listen to the Foxy Tones..at the criterion. They were fantastic so we had a few drinks and were lucky enough to get a table for 10 in a room to ourselves. The food and service was amazing and so was the entertainment! Highly recommend! Oamaru Jazz festival is a must!

Honestly the best customer service we’ve experienced while in this beautiful country. Lovely lovely people, and great food. A titch on the pricey side but so worth it. Highly recommend.

I missed the Vegans Welcome sign but they sure are. Enjoyed a glass of vegan friendly wine and my scrumptious vegan veggie stack. (They also cater for the carnivores). Good place.

Called in for a drink, and stayed for a meal.Very impressed by this well preserved and maintained Victorian building containing a cosy bar area, and then through to a separate dining room, like an pleasant step back into the past.We ordered a Beef Cheek Gnocchi, and a Peruvian-style Chicken, both meals were absolutely delicious, a great size, and very well presented.All of the staff were very friendly and provided a fantastic service. A special mention to Ayaka whose amazing, and professional personality made our whole experience very enjoyable.Thank you.

The location, ambiance and period features of the bar and restaurant here are fantastic and the restaurant manager who served us was exceptional - very knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. My slow-cooked beef cheeks and gnocchi was so tender and flavourful, and we loved that each meal could be ordered in a smaller entree size as well as a main meal portion. We had entree size meals, with gorgeously crispy Makihiki fries, so we had room for dessert. Baked brie with chocolate and berries - who knew?? Divine (to share, as very rich). Not a budget option but happy to pay a bit extra for such a creative and unique menu. A must visit if you're in Oamaru!
