Harington Point Gun emplacements
Today I visited these gun enplacements to do some fishing from the rocks below. Little has changed since my last visit some 20 + years ago.If you are physically fit and can climb like a mountain goat then you'll manage the steep narrow tracks down the hill. There are no maps or charts to guide you to the entrances to the tunnels, and no lighting within. BYO torches and a packed lunch for a peaceful picnic beside the ocean. Some maintenance is occurring, gorse and weeds are being cut back from structures. There is inadequate parking facilities, only 1/2 dozen vehicles able to park on the side of the road at the beginning of the crashrail. All concrete structures are heavily graffitied and no restoration has been attempted. From the shoreline below the fortifications many sea birds can be spotted flying over the harbour and the occasional seal may be on the rocks basking in the sun.

I had known about this place for quite some time and decided to have a father daughter adventure here. There is no real parking spot, so be careful where to choose. Making our way down Into the old bunkers and gun emplacements was really fun. Take some good footwear, lots of mud. Some great artwork on lots of the walls.

Its not an easy place to find but thus is a real hidden gem if your looking to find some serious history. The view is amazing from this point as your only about 400 meters away from Aromoana.

Really cool! Can be a bit tricky to get to. Make sure to drive to where the directions tell you, there’s an area to park on the coast side of the road, then you’ll be able to find a track down. Really worth it. There is fun exploring To do (:

Be very careful if the ground is wet as it can be very slippery. This hidden gem has always been a favourite of mine to visit when down the peninsula. Lots of fun exploring the different bunkers and gun emplacements. If you do visit with young children be careful near any edges that lead down to the harbour!

Harington Point Gun emplacements
Awesome very fun place to explore.Very heavily graffiti'd, lots of sharp gorse plant everywhere also. The longer tunnel begins from 1 of 4 mini bunkers down by the sea and goes through thick mud (ankle deep in parts). The easier to access area has a fairly long tunnel with lots of rooms coming off it.Cool place to explore as long as you are not too old or too young.

First off access is unusually difficult to find and there is no public signage for it. You have to park down the road a fair bit a walk up to where the road bend and you walk behind the road barrier. The oath down to the site is steep and very slippery when wet. The actual site is quite messy and as you can see from the photos the graffiti is amazing and adds to the general creepy nature of the site. Access to the first tunnel is pretty wet if it has been raining but the other entrance is quite good. Watch out for rubbish and fallen trees etc. All in all this site is an awkward Ill forgotten reminder of our recent past. It abandoned nature is quite good for the seeker of hidden wartime gems. But its bit what I'd class as a tourist attraction.

Rather inaccessible. Only the adventurous should really attempt it and those willing to fight through spikey plants and with large and deep drops on narrow paths.Wouldn't bring children. If you're fine with that though you should definitely go. It's pretty interesting with amazing views.ps keep moving down the hill from the initial emplacements. There is substantially more to see though its hard to find.
