my partner bought shoes from here and they literally fell apart within a week. i never even bothered to try talking to them after seeing their terrible attitude to negative reviews here. looks like they cant take criticism- will certainly never go back. i will say the older man that served her was lovely.

After a lifetime of sore feet my Mum always said you need to see Jimmy in Newtown". If you want to spend hours trying on shoes with a fake friendly shop keeper and leave with sore feet

Having posted my review, below, I have since read the other reviews about this business and I notice something very strange. Newtown Shoes Ltd. has replied to various negative reviews with a story about 'what really happened' -- all critical of the shopper. But I note that in a several cases there is a gap of months or even four or five years between the date of the review and the date of the shop's response! Clearly the shop workers are not only willfully ignorant of their obligations under the law, but are also dishonest. How could they identify which customer was which after several years....?I really want to give this business NO STARS.Here is my letter to Newtown Shoes. 19 September 2017Dear Sir,I visited your shop today with a pair of ankle boots, asking you to repair them as the sole had come away from the upper on the right boot. I told you I had bought the boots in April and that I thought they should last longer. I asked you to repair them. You said they could be repaired but that I would have to pay a small amount. If the sole had come away immediately after my purchasing them, you said, you would accept my complaint, but you said I would have to pay because I had worn the boots. You said if I had walked normally in them, the boot would not have broken. I asked again for you to repair the boot. You repeated I would have to pay a small amount. I said I had paid for the boots and wanted the boot repaired and would not pay for the repair. You said I was “just looking for a freebie”. I said I would make a complaint about you, and you agreed that I should do so. I then left the shop.I believe that by demanding a payment for the repair of the boot, you are in breach of the Consumer Guarantees Act, which requires that goods should be of acceptable quality, fit for purpose and durable. On returning home I looked at the receipt, which is dated 6 May 2017 (not April as I had recalled). The boots were in a sale and I paid $69.90 for them. The sole broke over a week ago, making it just over four months since purchase. Of course I did not wear the boots every day since purchase. My walking gait is within the normal range and I have not had trouble before with shoes breaking because of the way I walk. I think footwear of this type and price should be sufficiently durable as to last more than four-and- a-half months.I have made other arrangements for the repair of the boot but I am very annoyed that you not only declined to meet your obligations under the law (“repair, replace or refund”) but added personal insults about my walking and stated that I wanted “a freebie”, when in fact all I wanted was to havemy rights under the law, and to be treated with courtesy.Copies of this letter have been sent to the Citizens’ Advice Bureau, to the Commerce Commission and to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

I have been going to this shoe shop for probably around 17 years and would buy on average 3 pairs of shoes each time and on average buy winter shoes twice a year and the same with summer shoes. I had a good working relationship with Jimmy the older man he always gave me a discount which i never asked for. He had a great customer manner. I also brought shoes on my credit card each time he never charged me for it. i spent $469 tonight and his son wanted to charge me 5% extra on my credit card which we sorted out was a communication breakdown. I paid 2.5% there was nothing on the counter to state that this was required. I felt very let down i just felt that my loyalty was not important on average i would spend at least $300 each time i go to the shop. So that is $1200 a year. I dont know if I will go back I like the shoes but the customer service is not like it was.

I went in to Newtown shoes just to see what they had in stock as I was sick of the same old, same old from the major chains around (and the junk they sell at no.1 Shoe Warehouse and the Warehouse)....How pleasantly surprised I was at the vast and varied array of QUALITY shoes they stock, the two Indian fellas in there couldn't help me enough and I walked out with a pair of slippers (yeah I know Grandad ha ha) and an AWESOME pair of sneakers - great quality shoes and awesome prices! The service was great and I'll definitely be going back! - I almost felt like part of the family by the time I left and I would not hesitate to recommend this purveyor of fine footware to ALL my friends and family! Thanks Newtown Shoes!

I went to the shoe store with my friend to buy orthopedic shoes. After we had been in the shop for over 5 minutes, the owner finally came out of his back room and you could tell that he was in a bad mood, probably we had bothered him and he was visibly annoyed and let us feel that too.I asked about flat shoes and he replied very arrogantly that flat shoes weren't good for the feet. He then showed me another pair of shoes with a heel. I told him that I can't walk on that shoe. He was very offended and said things like: He would be the best shoe store in Wellington and blah blah blah" and went back into his back room and left me and my friend standing alone in the shop.Outrageous
